Alice sat stewing in her cell that morning while the rest of Moon Lake woke up to a Halloween's day. Halloween was one of her shop's biggest day, along with Christmas and Valentine's Day. And here she was in a cell when she should be opening her shop for today. She was beyond angry. She was angry with Harold Jenkins for rejecting her for that...weretigress. Mad at the cops who had arrested her. Mad at the city for keeping her in jail when she should be out. She put out a call for her lawyer, but Rob hasn't shown up yet. While she was waiting, she sat in her cell, getting angrier and angrier.
It wasn't long before a cop came up to her cell and called out her name. "Your lawyer is here," he said rather coldly, opening the door to her cell. She stared at the cop before standing up and walking out silently towards one of the conference rooms. Inside the conference room was her lawyer, Bob Bennet. He was looking over some notes that he had on the current case against Alice Decrux. She sat down across the table from him before he looked up and noticed his client.
"How are you holding up?" he asked as he put his papers away.
She sighed as she brushed the hair away from her face. "I've been...better." she managed to say.
He looked over to her and put a gentle hand on his client before continuing. "I've been looking over your case file. It says that the detectives found some of your doctored peanut brittle. Harold Jenkins didn't accept it, and left it with the delivery boy. One Jack Morrison I believe. He and his partner ate some of the peanut brittle, and that's what they're charging you with. They're saying that you tried to drug Harold, and you ended up drugging Jack." He sighed as he rubbed the bridge of his nose, a headache forming in his head. He looked up at Alice and asked, "And what do you have to say for yourself?"
Alice looked down at the table, and mumbled, "It was all an accident."
Robert pursed his lips before continuing, taking a moment to study Alice. "Look, Alice, just between you and me, this case is really weak. From what I can tell, they have really little. The case they have on Jack Morrison is really weak, as you had never intended Jack to get that peanut brittle. As far as Harold Jenkins is concerned, that case is a little stronger, but they'd have to prove that you sent him the stuff and you knew it was drugged. And given that the substance in question isn't controlled, they'll have to prove malice. Given with what they have, I think we can beat this."
Alice gave a small smile and said, "Best news I've heard recently." She looked up at her attorney and asked, "Is there a chance that I can get out of here?"
He took a deep breath before answering. "That's going to be a bit dicey. The town's in a bit of an uproar about the Jenkin's wedding." He paused as he looked at the reaction of her client before adding, "A different Jenkins. Most of the police and town are going there for some sort of situation. You're small peanuts compared to what's going on there. It's really just a matter of seeing a judge and getting bail. Normally we'd have to wait till Monday to get a bond hearing, but given that it's Halloween, and keeping you in jail is going to cause trouble for your business, I might be able to get a judge. I can't make any promises, but I'll see what I can do."
Alice smiled and said, "Thank you."
Bob looked at his client and said, "We'll get through this. We've been through worse, and this case has a smell of desperation. I'm going to show them that if you're going to throw my client in jail, it better be for a good reason. Just for now, stay out of trouble." He then signaled to the guard that the interview was over, and the guard escorted Alice back to her cell. Bob packed up his papers, and started to make his way to the courthouse for the sake of his client.
