She continued to giggle as she looked in the mirror.
"I look so cute!" she said.
Then she stopped. Something was off about the way she spoke. Was it her pitch? No, that seemed fine. Was it her tone of voice? No, that was normal too. She couldn't quite think of what it was. Thinking became very difficult for her anyway. Even trying to remember her first name left her brain in a cloud of thick smoke and her head throbbing in pain.
Thinking also became boring. Jen preferred to do rather than think. Consequences was a word no longer in her vocabulary. She couldn't even say the word consequences. Who even cared about conse---whatever it was called?
And because she couldn't think, she didn't notice that she couldn't speak anything other than basic Japanese, nor did she notice the other changes that followed.
