Clara felt slightly uncomfortable as she lay in the bed that she had been given at the hospital. It wasn't that the bed was uncomfortable, as it was rather soft, but at the moment her gravid womb wouldn't offer much room or ability for her get to a more "comfortable" position. She couldn't really get onto her side and had to stay on her back. Richard frequently came to be with her and that did provide her with some comfort, despite what issues that Clara felt that she was ready to give birth. She felt that her pregnancy had gone on long enough and she was ready to have her litter out of her.
"You still look good," Richard spoke with a small smile, "or at least you look good to me."
"Thank you," Clara grunted, "but this has gone on long enough. These four are getting bigger and are way to active!"
She then looked down on her womb, covered by the sea green gown the hospital staff had given her to wear and the similarly colored blankets that rested over her womb. It was a large round bump that looked as though there was too much mass around her middle, and Clara was ready for that to go.
"It is time for you to get out!" Clara said to her womb, resting her hands on the sides of it, "out! Out! Out!"
"I'm not sure that is how it works," Richard said slowly.
"Don't you try such things!" Clara scolded, "these four have me here. They keep me from you and our bed... they keep me from doing my job effectively. I'm ready for them to be out! OUT!"
Richard frowned slightly, but chalked that up to hormones. He was sure that Clara would love their cubs. The fact that they would seem to be putting stress on her life wasn't something that would take away from her love for them. The fact that Clara was having a litter of fur was a surprise had presented enough surprises that there was still a lot to respond to. He'd stay with her as much as he could and provide as much encouragement as he could. He slowly reached out and caressed her shoulder, but said nothing. Clara did look up to him and gave a small smile, though that actually didn't last long. Richard could only watch as Clara pulled her lips back in a snarl with bared teeth.
"I'm... I'm... aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!" Clara gave a pained grunt and then throw her head back.
"Clara!?" Richard gasped in shock and then came forward again as Clara began to relax and then looked back to him, "Clara, are you okay?"
"I..." Clara started and then smiled, "I think my water broke."
"Your..." Richard began.
"I guess giving a commanding presence works," Clara said slowly.
"The call button..." Richard spoke quickly as he looked down toward the bed. Along one wing there was a plastic device with a lone red button on it. Written on the button was the word, "call" which would signal a nurse to come. He quickly agreed to it and pressed that button. He then looked to assure Clara, "Don't worry. Everything will be fine. The doctors and nurses will be there for you... and you know I'll be there for you."
Clara smiled to him and spoke, "I'm sure..." and gave another pained grunt as another contraction hit her. "As I think our cubs are finally ready to be born."
