Mary was disappointed. She had hoped that the fairy would appreciate the gifts a little more. It was almost insulting. She tried to blame her misplaced anger on the fairy's bad attitude. But the truth was that she really wanted to see the fairy use the doll accessories. Mary loved dolls and it wasn't often you got to play with a real living doll.
"I don't think so. We can't be sure there won't be some kind of side effect. For all we know, you haven't finished growing. We better stop, at least until tomorrow," said Mary.
"But Mary...."
"No buts about it! We are still learning how these vials work. There could be all kinds of unforeseen side effects. You are over twice your size already. You should just be satisfied with your current size for now and be grateful that I even shared the vials with you," said Mary.
"You mean be grateful I agreed to be your guinea pig, " mumbled a sullen fairy.
Mary crossed her arms and glared down at the fairy.
"If you think I am treating you so poorly you can always leave. No one is keeping you here against your will. You are free to go anytime you like, " said Mary angrily.
"No, no, I didn't mean it like that," said the fairy quickly. "I'm just a little frustrated because I am finally so close to my goal of being a normal height. But you are probably right. Better to be safe than sorry. I can wait until tomorrow for another dose."
Mary smiled, pleased that the fairy had submitted. She deluded herself into believing that she was making the fairy wait just to be safe, to ensure that nothing went wrong. She didn't want to admit the truth - she liked having a living doll held captive. She wanted to play with her new toy.
"Good, I am glad you see it my way. Now... what would you like to do while we wait?"
