Suddenly Mary felt something grab his hand.
"Mary! What are you doing, " She hissed. Not seeing Anna. "You cant go out."
Anna froze...ducking into the shadows, not wanting to be seen. Mark could see her standing there, looking to her helplessly. "I uh..."
Jess dragged her back and locked the door behind her. "Come on, don't wanna get caught by the Shunk'a." She said. Mark squirmed a bit, seeing Anna standing outside the window. She mouthed the words sorry and dissapeared.
In that moment Mark's heart sank but then he felt Jess's hand on his. "Hey its ok...don't be scared.." She combed back some of Mark's hair. "You know...I always wished I had a sister...do you mind if I braid your hair since we're up?"
Mark hesitated but that growing childlike essence built up again and he nodded. Over the course of the next few minutes as the other girl started to braid her hair...Mary started to feel the rush of emotion, the desire to escape leave her. She felt the childish essence take over and suddenly she wondered why the counselor had come to see her.
"There see?" Jess said holding up a mirror.
Mary looked and giggled she -did- look pretty. "yeah...hey...maybe we -can- be sisters, at least while we're at camp."
Jess nodded. "yeah! Hey I know, we can exchange something of each others! Then we'll be like real sisters."
"yeah but what?" Mary asked.
"Hmm how about our sneakers, they look the same and that would work!"
Mary loved that idea! Giggling she nodded and brought her white sneakers out and offered them to Jess, and Jess offered her own. The two girls giggled quietly, meanwhile Jill watched them. Quietly to herself, the other little girl felt the jealousy of their friendship. It looked so genuine. She wished she had such a friend, not the fake friends she had....
