As the mist cleared I inspected the small room in which I had materialised. It's plain walls were lined with cluttered shelves of an assortment of clothing, children's toys and books.
A tan young man, probably 19, was coughing and wheezing on the floor in front of me. It seemed he had not noticed me yet. As he was recovering from his "smoke" inhalation I decided to start my spiel.
"Good Evening, sir. I am the genie of the la-"
"No fucking way."
"I'm sorry sir, but please let me finish"
"Holy shit..."
"You done?... Good, I am the genie of the lamp, any wish you desire is my command for the next 24 hours, and no you can't wish to have me for longer, that's just selfish... now what is your name and how can I help?"
The young man was staring at me with... I'll assume awe and wonder at my supreme form.
"My name?"
"No, I wanted you're mailing address"
"Really?"
"No! If you want wishes I'll need to know who I' m talking to."
"Uhhh, Jordan..."
"Right, Master Jordan, and where are we currently" I replied scanning the disorganised mess of... random articles of clothing.
"Uhh, Mr Genie... we are in the storeroom... of where I work."
"Fascinating.... I'm already bored, got any wishes?"
"Just like that? No rules?"
"Well yeah there's rules but I'll tell you if you breach any. If your nervous I'd start with something simple."
"Like... I wish the rest of my shift was cancelled?"
"Yeah, that'll do" I lazily snapped my fingers, no point changing things yet. "Done."
An older man's voice called from outside the door. "Hey Jordan, It's pretty quiet today, you might as well take the rest of the day off."
Jordan wheezed a little bit. "Wow, just like that... this is gonna be great!" He picked up my lamp tried to stuff it into his pocket.
"Hey uhh Mr Genie? I wish I could fit your lamp in my pocket?"
Damn, nothing I could alter on that. I didn't even bother snapping my fingers. "Done"
The lamp instantly slipped into his jeans.
"Wait, can you turn invisible?"
"Yes, but I shouldn't have to, only you can see me."
"Sweet! Let's go home." and with that he marched towards the storeroom door.
"Why not just wish to be home." I said, making a poor attempt to stifle a grin.
"Good point. Mr Genie, I wish I was at home."
Finally something so generic even a monkey could make this interesting... I should probably start slow though. Hmm he's a pretty cute guy, where should I begin? Eh just keep it simple, give him a bit of an ego, I shrugged and snapped my fingers. Time reversed around me.
"Good point. Mr Genie, I wish I was at home checking myself out."
Oh too easy Master, I grinned and the dingy storeroom faded to black.
