As soon as their father was out of sight, Dustin untied the end of Ty and set the hose roll to turn freely. He grabbed the end of Ty and started to run down the sidewalk. Ty stretched across three driveways and to Dustin's delight, two different kids immediately rode their bikes across the thin rope that, unbeknownst to them, was Ty. Finally, all 300 feet of Ty were stretched out along the sidewalk.
As Dustin expected, Ty was able to slowly increase his control over his overstretched body. He went inside and checked a newspaper notice that he'd seen. When he came out, Ty was probably not even 200 feet long. And his strength was returning faster every second.
But Dustin didn't let Ty get any further. He started rolling up Ty around his hand and forearm and in just a couple minutes had Ty rolled into a bundle and hanging over one handlebar of his bike. Dustin rode part way across town to the big dropoff. That's what he called it. There was a bridge across a sort of chasm between their hometown and the next town. Today was bungee jumping day at that bridge.
Guys with all sorts of neat equipment were everywhere on the bridge. It was a product placement bonanza for the advertisers of Outside magazine. With no one paying too much attention to him, Dustin tied Ty to a couple cement posts below the railing at the edge.
"Please Dustin!"
Dustin smirked and tossed Ty over the edge. The end of Ty was still a good 50 feet above the ground surface below. Dustin pulled ropeTy up to the road and tied the other end of him around his ankle. He looked around and saw that all the attention was on two guys being interviewed with a tv camera on them.
Dustin climbed up onto the concrete railing. He took a deep breath and looked down. Yikes. He took another breath then leaped out into the unknown. Terror was just about to get the best of him as he accelerated toward the earth when he felt a tug at his ankle. His acceleration was slowed and finally stopped by stretchy helpless Ty. Dustin whooped at the exhilarating feeling and then laughed at Ty having to bear the burden of stopping him.
After he climbed back to the road above, he got a lot of crap shouted at him by the showoffs. They especially derided his rope but Dustin just laughed at them and rode off on his bike. Dustin's jump had probably added 15 feet to the length of Ty and as he rode his bike home, Dustin could see Ty slowly shortening himself. Unless he did something, Ty would eventually reshape himself and regain his powers. Dustin debated what he should do.
