Paul said, smiling down at the little men, "I wish you were both permanent pets in the DeSoto house. You will both do anything any of my sons or I say, no matter what it is. Also, nobody from your normal lives will ever miss you."
Jim was about to protest when a prolonged wave of SOMETHING washed over him and Matt. When it was done, their viewpoint had been forever altered. Both retained their personalities and preferences, but they also accepted the fact that they would be small from now on. They would do what the DeSoto men asked of them, no matter what it was, and no matter how much they would not want to do it.
All around them, the world was also changing as their personal possessions and other items they had influenced disappeared, only to be replaced by completely foreign objects.
"What's happening, Dad?" Matt whispered.
"We're being erased from the big world," said Jim slowly. He wasn't sure how he felt about this. On the one hand, he was horrified, but on the other, the wish made him feel that this all made sense.
"Come on now, guys," said Paul. "Let's go to your new home. Maybe Bryan and Brett haven't left for school yet and would enjoy meeting their new pets."
The giant opened the door, and the two reluctant little men complied, walking naked behind their new master and climbing awkwardly down the cement steps that led from the door.
