You look down at yourself, but after a moment, snort derisively. A cursed spring? What, were you in a fairy tale? Of course there was no such thing, somebody was playing a twisted joke on anyone who snuck in, more likely. You write off the tingling as paranoia, then begin looking for an exit. You just want to get home and have a nice long hot shower and a soft bed.
You examine every inch of the walls, but there doesn't seem to be a door or crevice leading outdoors, so you figure the only way out might just be the way you got in. Since the walls were narrow where you fell in, you wonder if you can somehow shimmy your way back out the trap door. Even if you end up back in the hedge maze, at least you would have sky above you, and not feel like you're in some creepy cursed crypt.
You scratch absently at an itch on your lower back, then head back out into the hallway. Grabbing a torch in each hand, you begin to make your way back to where you think you fell in. At least, that's what you thought. Turns out there must have been a turnoff you missed in the dark, because you still haven't come to the place where the tunnel narrows to the point it was at where you fell in, and you feel like you've been walking for a while. The itch on your back hasn't gone away, and you wonder if the hedge maze had some poison ivy you unknowingly brushed against.
Finally worried about getting lost, you have the sense to use one of the torches to leave scorch marks on the wall as you continue, so you can at least find part of the way back. Just then, the torches flicker slightly. Air! There must be an exit! Eager to get out, you don't notice that while the incoming air is slightly cool, it doesn't exactly smell fresh. The tunnel you are in is not extremely narrow, but you find yourself having to squeeze around large rocks partially blocking the passageway, as though there had been a partial cave-in. Finally pushing past the stones, you stumble out of what you hope is the exit.
Instead of sky above you, you see a stone ceiling rising into the darkness, presumably covering the large circular chamber you now find yourself in. It is too large for you to clearly see in the flickering torchlight if there are other exits, or what else is within the room. Suddenly, you feel a sharp twinge in your back where it was still itching. Cursing, you jam the torches into some of the fallen rocks so they would remain upright, then pull up the back of your jacket and shirt. You thought it was just an itch, but now you're beginning to worry you might've gotten bitten by something, like a tick or a spider. Squinting in the dim light, you frown at the itchy patch on your back, then try to bend more to get a closer look. Is it just your eyes playing tricks on you, or does it look like you...
