It was all very simple really.
The monster snake dragon that had a habit of vanishing after completing her
mission was
Kyle von Draken ,brought back from the dead.
Although the name von Draken suggested there was a dragon or dragon worshipping
ancestor somewhere in the von Draken line that wasn't so.
The von Draken's had been perfectly normal merchants in the town and the huge
von Draken 'castle' perched at the seas edge had been placed there for the perfectly good commercial reason
it had llowed the merchant whalers that comprised Kyle's great great great grandfather
to bring in smuggled goods in a seaside cave during the Civil War.
Kyle himself had often wondered in the late 1930s how
Grampa Ebeneezer Drake had ever
come to change his name to
Ebeneezer von Draken and close as he could tell,it was because the old sailer
had found carvings of winged snakes on the walls
of that smugglers cave.
Cuebre
Creatures the superstitious basque sailers who'd frequented the cave centuries earlier
had believed in.
It was a stroke of misfortune that had led to Kyle von Draken
slipping and falling down a ledge inside that smugglers cavern during World War Two.
He died and a raging storm had rushed into the caves and swept his remains out to sea
so that his grieving parents never ever did find out what had happened to their missing son
on October 31 1942.
Being dead however didn't mean he wasn't aware when the hippie witches had come across his sand covered skeleton in 1969.
They'd taken the bones to that snake-dragon cave one night and
whilst stoned on weed, somehow brought her back to life.
All Kyla remembered was the sudden pain of her lungs inflating, the gritty bite
of pebbles on her belly scales
and the look of horror on the Devil worshipping hippies
as they'd seen the shadowy form of a winged snake dragon
peel off the walls and flow over the skelton and change what were human
remains into a living breathing cuelbre.
Most of the hippies had fled the cave but the cuelbre had slithered over
as fast as a whip and coiled her enormous body around the
unlucky witch who hadn't run fast enough away.
Kyla had been perfectly happy sleeping the eternal sleep
and so had grated out of her throat
"Why?"
The witch had squirmed in the monsters coils and simply shrieked
so Kyla had tightened up a little to keep the squirming mammal from
thrashing about too much.
However Kyla didn't know her own strength at that point in her unnatural existance and
so what was supposed to be a gentle squeeze began snapping bones inside the witch.
