Mad Science

A primer to Fame

added by makutamon 6 years ago O

Ariel was rather nervous about beginning her training as a music artist, mainly because she didn't know what to do or what to expect. Fortunately, Animalia Adventures had a class on what to expect.

---

"Hello Ariel." Said her private tutor as she made her way into his room.

"Hello, Mr. Dean." Answered Ariel, somewhat glad with the arrangement she had. She had heard that many of the people who had to take this kind of class had fallen from grace and dropped out of the music scene for one reason or another. These had to take something along the lines of a public class, but she managed to get a private tutor.

"I'm glad you're starting with this class because of what could await you in this life." Said Mr. Dean, as Ariel took her seat at her desk.

"Really?" Asked Ariel, a little surprised, "What?"

"The problem with popular fame is that, in many cases, the fame and popularity goes to a star's head, and they think they can do anything they want." Began Mr. Dean, taking a lecturing attitude. "That kind of attitude leads to a career-destroying scandal, at the very least."

"So what is the worst thing that can happen?" Asked Ariel, a little more surprised.

"The worst that can happen is death." Answered Mr. Dean. Ariel shuddered in response to that, but Mr. Dean said, smiling to her, "Fortunately, to Animalians who started out as feral animals such as yourself, can learn to avoid many of the things that destroyed other careers."

"And those are...?" Said Ariel, pleased at the compliment.

"My little group has boiled down the many pitfalls into what we've called the Three Prohibitions: Drugs, Sex, and Money." Answered Mr. Dean.

"Can you explain those to me? I've never heard of those being dangerous." Said Ariel, honestly.

"Gladly." Answered Mr. Dean, taking a lecturing pose again. "The least dangerous to a career is Money. The primary danger from money is running into debt by spending more than you have or make.

"I can never understand that." Replied Ariel, the term going over her head.

"The Prohibition that is more dangerous than Money, yet is sometimes a direct result of it, is Sex. This often leads to scandals like infidelity, or similar things. Once that gets out, popular fallout soon happens and a career is over." Continued Mr. Dean. This caused Ariel to give a shudder of fear and revulsion.

"The most dangerous Prohibition is Drugs." Finished Mr. Dean. Upon seeing Aril's confused look, he explained, "These are mood- and sense-scrambling intoxications that many people use to forget their troubles. The problem with these substances is addiction and wanting more and more of it. Eventually intoxication leads to death." Ariel really didn't like any of that, both from her fish instincts and the fact that many Project Phoenix volunteers were current and former drug addicts.

"Fortunately there are three things that can be recognized as signs of giving in to temptations." Mr. Dean reassured Ariel. "And they are also easy to recognize as well: First you start to change; Next, you lose what you love the most; and finally, you won't even recognize yourself."

Ariel was now glad that she was now taking this class. If this was what felled many pop stars, then it will be a good thing to avoid them.
