There was a knock at the door, interrupting what was becoming a real family feud. Derrick was close to storming out, and his parents were close to shutting down the entire vacation and going back home. Derrick's father rose and went over to the door. "Keep yourself covered, young man!" Then he opened the door to find a lovely young woman dressed in the simple white robes of Resort employees.
"Please excuse this interruption." The girl smiled and stepped inside. "We just became aware of a terrible mistake concerning your son."
"Mistake is right! He's only sixteen! How dare you allow..." His father's tirade got cut off by a raised hand.
"Derrick, I am here to apologize on behalf of the entire Resort staff for not making the proper adjustments." The girl looked at his parents and sister and rolled her eyes. "We do not often get such closed-minded individuals here." That caused his parents to both start sputtering objections, but they fell silent again at another wave of the girl's hand, this time looking confused. "Please, move out where I can see you."
Derrick stood and walked out towards her. The girl grinned and nodded. "You have certainly been enjoying yourself. And I hope this little incident has not put you off of our entertainments." She made a curious gesture with one hand. "I promise that whatever you do from now on, you will have the full support of your family. That includes choosing to become a beast, any sexual encounters, even permanent changes or choosing to remain here as an employee."
Derrick grinned at the news, but looked back at his parents, sure they would start objecting again. His parents and sister looked confused a moment, but then nodded. His mom smiled and said "Of course! We came here to open our children's worlds. If Derrick chooses some different paths than we expected, well, that's what he is here for!"
His father nodded and grinned. "I can't say I'm not jealous! He got an early start while we went sightseeing."
His sister giggled. "I am going to check out the dryads."
Derrick was confused by the sudden change of heart - it was like they did not remember the anger of just a few minutes ago. The girl chuckled and said "Don't worry. As far as they are concerned, you always had permission to do whatever you wanted. And now they are free to do whatever they really want to do."
The rest of his family had already sat back down at the table, and were oddly ignoring Derrick and the girl. She grinned. "The argument never happened, and they do not even remember my visit. Once you sit at the table, they will accept you as you are and however you choose to be in the future." She bowed her head and then went back to the door. "Again, we apologize for the oversight. You should never have been put through the stress. As compensation, you have been given total reset capability. No matter what you choose, even rebirth or some other normally permanent change, you can return to this moment and form simply by wishing for it." Then she shut the door.
As soon as it shut, Derrick's Mom said "Don't let your eggs get cold! You should have a good breakfast, especially if you are going to spend the day chasing fauns and satyrs."
