IAC Water Events at Mieni Atoll

added by makutamon 6 years ago O

Animalia wasn't the only place where the IAC was taking place. It was also taking place at Mieni Atoll. As it turned out, it was a perfect place for more aquatic events than could be found at Animalia.

Not only were there swimming races across the central lagoon of Mieni Atoll, there was also underwater synchronized swimming and a coral reef obstacle course. These often involved making high speed underwater turns through natural coral arches, as well as swimming through gaps I. The shortest time possible.

The beach sports were rather popular, though that was probably due to the 'bounciness' of the female athletes as the games were played. Fortunately, there were rules to keep catcalling to a minimum, not just to keep the athletes from getting distracted, but also because children were present.

There was also a jungle trail race, where the participants had to cross the jungle in the shortest time possible AND reach the finish line before their rivals in the games. It was made a bit more difficult because the track wasn't as laid down as other trails were, forcing them to improvise ways to get across the finish line more.

Mieni Atoll also had its own version of a triathlon, where the participants had to race across a circuit of all seven islets of Mieni Atoll, including swimming between each Islet. Fortunately for the participants, there were no bikes involved, because it would be very hard to find bikes that could ride in the jungle and not get their spokes range led in the undergrowth.

One of the most unexpected things that happened was a "visit" from a giant squid near the USS Pennsylvania. Ran, Gaz, Rapier, and Gladys were leading an underwater news team to the wreck when the giant appeared as if from nowhere. Fortunately Ran, Gaz, Rapier, and Gladys were able to neutralize/defeat it and bring it to shore, with Ran and Gaz only receiving minor scarring on their backs from the squid's sucker teeth. During the dissection/autopsy it was determined to be the world's largest male giant squid, only 3 cm shorter than the current holder for the world's largest giant squid.

It also inspired the building of what would be Mieni Atoll's newest attraction. It would be a AFS (Artificial Floating Structure) that was supporting a nautical museum that would show both the history of nautical travel in the South Pacific, a display of the unique aquatic life in Mieni Atoll, and the body of the giant squid, preserved in a gigantic block of resin, with its own exhibit.

The aquatic reporters, when they submitted their footage of the giant squid attack to their superiors, immediately got major awards for their daring, and their coverage. The report was seen around the world, as well as at the IAC in Animalia.
