The July issue of Animalia Magazine was called Summer Surprises, and not just because of the giant squid "attack" at Mieni Atoll. It also included special information on the IAC and the sporting events.

In response to the appearance of the giant squid appearing near Mieni Atoll, there was a special article called "Secrets of the Leviathan" which talked about giant nautical monsters through human history. On part talked about how the Scylla in the Odyssey of Homer might have been a misinterpreted encounter with a giant squid. Another part talked about the mysterious sea creature called the Kraken and what it was and where the myth originated.
There were also information on how giant, tentacled beasties made their way into many pop culture icons. One such thing was how they made their way into H.P. Lovecraft's universe, and another how the giant squid/kraken became the Watcher in the Water in Tolkien's mythology, and many others.
A big part of the article was screenshots from the attack near the USS Pennsylvania, and the scars on Ran and Gaz's back in the aftermath. This was also included with the history of the study of the giant squid when they first began to appear during the 19th century.

Another thing that appeared in the magazine was the fact that today was the official one year anniversary of the Animalia community. This was celebrated with the largest Animalian-safe cake with exactly 365 candles on it (Noble had to use his wings to blow them all out), an enormous barbecue with both meat and tofu/fish cooked on grills, and a special time capsule arranged to be opened at least 30 years from now to preserve memories of the first IAC.

A third part of the magazine was predictions on the future, where many people tried to predict where Animalia and the virus that created it would be in the future. A part of this was the "predictions" made by Bill Gates in 1999 and how scarily accurate they were.

It certainly was surprising to find all these things in Animalia Magazine as well as the standard articles.
