Janet woke early the next morning, feeling a bit hung over and worn out. She had to spend a few minutes getting her bearings, but she remembered the events of the day before pretty clearly.
She had no regrets, but she wasn't exactly sure what to do. She had feelings already for Carl, but wasn't sure if those were real or an invetion of the machine that had turned her into a sex pot. Besides, she was a woman with no history. She had no id, no background. Even if she could convince Carl to make this a longer term relationship, she couldn't make it work.
That's when she spied something she hadn't seen before: another suitcase. Quietly, she walked over to it and lifted the fabric top. It was full of womens cloths and personal effects. She spied a purse on the desk next to the phone and carried it quietly into the bathroom. Was Carl here with another woman? His wife, maybe?
She opened the purse and pulled out the wallet. She flipped it open and almost jumped out of her skin. the picture on the drivers licesne was her. According to this, she was 23 years old, and apparently married to Carl. She looked over the countertop and spotted cosmetics that had to belong to her. There was even a small engagment and wedding ring sitting on the countertop. With a shaking hand, she slid them onto her fingers, to find they were perfect fits.
She sat down on the toilet, confused. The Chronovac was obviously capable of altering reality, but this wasn't something she'd input. Was this a strange side effect, or was someone erasing Jeff out of existance, either by accident or on purpose?
And did it really matter?
Janet was certainly not Jeff anymore. She'd already been on the verge of deciding to do just this, make this life more permenant somehow, but this wasn't her life. Janet needed some time to think, but by this time tommorow, her and her husband would be leaving town!
