Sheena thought long and hard about what Rachel was suggesting.
Give up something to gain another form of magic, even if I become something... else in the process.
She had been a fairy, but what good was being a fairy now without having fairy magic?
But what could I give up? Let alone, what would I become to be magical again?
Sheena knew that whatever her decision, she would have to be careful.
After all, there were both good and bad magic users in the world, and while Sheena longed to have magical powers again, she certainly didn't want to become evil in the process.
I thought about giving up being a fairy, but apparently that's part of the ritual to regain magical powers by changing forms.
Sheena's friend Rachel was a bit concerned, not only for Sheena, but the entire fairy realm itself.
The spell IS possible, but it's never been done before. Everything had got to be absolutely PERFECT for this to work not only for Sheena, but to protect the rest of us as well.
The one thing that Rachel DIDN'T TELL Sheena about beseeching cyoc to grant the transformation was that regardless of what Sheena became, she would be banished from the fairy realm forever.
In order to protect everyone else, the spell sends the newly recreated being some place far away. That way, the rest of us are safe in case the person becomes something too big or too powerful for us to handle. But if it's performed wrong, the powers I unleash could possibly wipe out the entire fairy realm in the process!
It was almost sunset when Sheena approached Rachel.
Rachel turned to look at her friend, and the expression on Sheena's face told Rachel everything she needed to know.
"What did you decide?" Rachel asked.
"In the end, there was only one thing I could totally give up," admitted Sheena. "Myself."
"What do you mean?"
"If I can't be Sheena the fairy and still have fairy magic, then I might as well not be Sheena anymore either. When the incantation takes affect, I'll no longer be a fairy, so I might as well give up all my memories too, because it will very hard for me to ever think about my time as a fairy, let alone all the good times I had as one. Especially with you," she added, before hugging Rachel.
The two fairies stood there, holding each other close.
Rachel wasn't surprised that Sheena was crying, but was amazed to discover that she was crying too.
Once they broke the embrace, Rachel looked at Sheena and said, "Are you absolutely sure?"
"Yes. Just promise me something," requested Sheena.
"What?"
"That whatever happens, I won't become a menace to the others, and that you'll never forget me."
"Never!" promised Rachel, before hugging Sheena again.
Together, the two walked hand in hand up to the top of a hill.
It was now beyond sunset.
All the stars were out and shining brightly in the night sky.
Rachel looked up at the sky and said, "Are you ready?"
Sheena just nodded her head and whispered a tearful goodbye.
Rachel took a step back, turned to the proper page within the book she held, and began to read aloud.
By the end of the first sentence, Sheena felt a tingling sensation throughout her entire body.
By the end of the second sentence, she something odd on her back. A quick turn of her head revealed that Sheena's fairy wings had totally disappeared.
As Rachel continued reading the incantation, Sheena's whole body began to glow...
...and change.
By the time Rachel finished her recitation, she had to shield her eyes to see the book properly.
As the glow started to fade, Rachel closed the book and held it close to her bosom.
Then Rachel slowly raised her head and saw...
