"Reach out and touch someone" (Moon Lake of Earth 2)

added by The Masked Writer 6 years ago O

{{Our episode title comes from an old telephone commercial slogan.—tmw.}}

Kenya Adaeze-Crawford didn't know what to do.
It had been hours since she had seen her husband Jack Crawford, not since he was arrested for punching an agent of the FBI when the man goaded Jack into doing so by commenting about the article revealing her past as a professional escort.
The lady from the law office Jack used had been kind and helped her out with all the endless questions the investigators had about Jack's business dealings, a lot of which Kenya truly didn't know about.
But all she could really think about was how alone she felt at a time like this and how she truly needed somebody on her side.
But who can I trust? she wondered.
When Kenya suddenly found herself alone, because arrangements were being made for Jack's bail hearing, she decided to take a chance.
Kenya reached into her purse and got out her cellphone, calling a number that was still programmed into it, despite her husband's wishes to the contrary.

Jean Talbot had a busy morning with early classes, but now was resting in her Shelby, taking a break.
As much as she wanted to, it wasn't practical to go home for a bite to eat, as she realized her fiance Nate Anderson was right about maybe she should start bringing some snacks with her on long class days.
Thinking about him started making Jean a tad horny.
Okay, a lot horny, but now was not the time or place to scratch that itch herself.
As soon as you recover from your injuries Stud, Jean thought to herself, licking her lips in anticipation.
Then she started hearing a cellphone ringing.
Jean reached out to the dashboard where she left hers, but then realized it wasn't her phone ringing.
Looking around, she saw a phone sitting in the passenger seat and realized it was Nate's.
Must have fallen out between my wild driving him to school and getting out of the car.
Not recognizing the number on the display screen, Jean answered it by cautiously saying "Hello?"

"Hello my darling werewolf," said Kenya, after looking around to make sure no one was paying attention to her or eavesdropping on her end of the conversation.
"Who is this?" the voice on the other end asked.
Not recognizing it, Kenya said, "I know it's been quite a while my darling. It's Kenya."
Between Nate telling Jean everything about his past and reading the recent expose in the Moon Lake Gazette, Jean said, "Kenya Crawford?"
"Err... yes," replied the voice on the other end, before finally realizing whoever she was talking to wasn't Nate Anderson. "Who is this?"
Jean didn't hesitate to say, "Jean Talbot, Nate Anderson's fiance."
Kenya was crestfallen to hear that, but Jean wasn't finished telling the bitch who hurt her man off.
"Besides the fact two of your husband's goons tried to kill my future husband Monday night," began Jean, to which Kenya gasped in shock, "you truly broke his heart when you rejected him for that rich bastard Jack Crawford."
"I—" began Kenya, but Jean wasn't finished.
"Nate is more than over you honey, but we're not done. Not by a long shot," warned Jean. "Besides the fact Nate is my mate by nature and will be my legal husband as soon as we can tie the knot," she said, being careful not to discuss were matters on an unsecured phone line, "be assured that I will not rest until your ass is imitating a bear skin rug on our living room floor. And if you think for one second I'm not capable of doing what I promise or that your money and power can buy your freedom, just remember my last name. Talbot. T-A-L-B-O-T. I hope you recognize it and know what that means, because the next time I ever see you in person bitch is also going to be the last time you ever breathe!"
And with that, an angry werelioness hung up.
WOW! thought Jean, putting Nate's cellphone in her glove compartment. That felt good! Not as good as actually kicking some snooty ass, but good enough for now.
With that, Jean checked the time and went back to reading her text book before she had to go back into Moon Lake College for her next class.

BACK IN SEATTLE...
Kenya Adaeze-Crawford stared at her cellphone long after the display screen went dark when the call ended.
She knew what would happen next and tried to fight it, but it was a losing battle.
With that, Kenya put her head on the corner of the desk she had been sitting next to and began to cry.
