As you examine the gem, you can't help but notice how beautiful it is, beyond anything you've ever seen, to the point you forget what you just witnessed. You just *can't* leave this gem here, and let someone else pick it and waste it.
With your preservation instinct thrown out of the window, you quickly grab the gem and bring it back home.
By the time you arrive at your place, you start to feel the exhaustion after everything that happened tonight. After admiring your newfound treasure one last time, you decide it may not be wise to push your stamina. The gem will have to wait tomorrow.
You put the gem in your bag and go directly to your bed...

Of course, you overslept...
You couldn't take your time to do anything with your gem, still in your bag, as you run in panic to grab your bus on time. You still have to attend school, at least until you figure out what you can do with the gem.
Your day goes by almost normally, but your mind is entirely focused on the latex gem, wondering what it could do...
Maybe it could summon a latex monster at your service, or transform anyone into one...
Or it could give you some powers, probably latex based. No idea why you would need latex power, but with some imagination, you can make it work...
Maybe it is just worth some money, and you will be able to hunt one of these monsters and transform it into another gem...
Finally alone on your way back home, you take your gem out of your bag. Still beautiful as ever, you take your time to admire it. You can't get enough of this subtle shine, this feeling on touch, this...
"What is this ?"
Surprised, you completely freak out, almost dropping your treasure in panic. It was your old friend Mira, being as energetic as ever... At some point, you were in love with this side of her, but now she is with someone else, and you are fine with being only friend... Most of the time
"So, this is what was on your mind today ? It look nice if you ask me... Where did you find it ?"
"I just... found it... Nothing special", you grunt as you collect yourself after this heart attack and try put the gem back in your bag. No need to tell her anything that concern the word "latex", she will only bring trouble...
"Not so fast !"., as she grab the gem out of your hands and examine it herself. "You've never been the precious stone kind of man..."
"Give it back ! It's mine !"
"Easy Gollum, it's not even a real ruby... It's made of some kind of plastic". Completely ignoring you, she continues her examination... "Though, it still look really nice..."
After a short time, the gem start to glow with a strange eerie light that immediately remind you of the gem's origin.
"Wait ! It's dangerous ! I got it from some kind of monster made of latex !"
"But... It's so pretty...". She seem completely entranced by the gem and it's clear that your word won't change anything... What is happening to her is clearly not normal and you have to stop it ! You try to take the gem back by force, but with no avail, as it won't bulge from her strangely strong grip.
"So... pretty...". As her word lose coherence, she start to slowly move the gem toward her chest. As it get close to her, her entire body start to glow with the same light, growing stronger as it get closer.
"This can't be good...". You are left powerless, watching as she embed the gem into her chest, ignoring any clothes and her uniform's bow that were in the way, her body shining, slowly repeating the same word.
"Pretty..."
