Just as you look the boy in the eyes, you feel a strange yet familiar tingling. Your body is changing, growing....
You feel your scales begin to recede back into your body as it gets bigger and bigger. Your fins stretch into small, gradually growing arms. The tips of your fins become small webbed hands. Your body continues to expand and you look down to see your old pink flesh returning. Your scalp itches as long blonde hair sprouts and falls down your back. You gasp as your new lungs fill with air and process it into something you can breathe. But your transformation is not complete. You feel two large mounds slowly rise off your chest, developing into a pair of very large breasts.
Oh well, you think. Being a female human is better than not being human at all.
You try to stand so you can thank the boy who rescued you. But your legs don't seem to work properly and you tumble back down to the ground. You look at your legs and find fish scales still covering them. More specifically, you see scales covering the mermaid tail your fused legs have become.
"Oh, boy!" says the boy with some excitement. "That durn statue told me I would find my heart's desire if I went fishin' in that there pond. And it sure did deliver. If you aint the purtiest thing I ever dun seen! I always wanted me a mermaid!"
"No, you don't understand," you say.
Your voice is high and melodic. You reach up to touch your throat and feel some gills on the side of your neck. Apparently you are amphibious now, with the ability to breathe in air or water.
"My, oh my. You got the voice of an angel. Just like I wished fur. I can't wait to bring ya home to ma!" said the boy.
"No, I can't leave. I have to get to that statue," you say.
You hope the cupid statue will be able to reverse this mess if you can just talk to it again. But the boy just ignores you.
"Don't you worry none. I'll have this cooler fixed in a jiffy. Then I can take you home where you will be safe and sound, " says the boy as he begins to modify his ice chest into some kind of improvised sled.
While he works, you debate your choices. You could go with the boy. When you reach his home, maybe you can reason with his mother. Or at least use a phone to get in touch with someone who might help you, an old friend or a family member. Then again, you think the cupid statue is nearby. You might be able to crawl over to it before the boy finishes his work. Of course, your last encounter with the statute didn't end very well. What are the chances a second round with it would end up any better? Finally, you could just dive back into the pond and wait for the boy to leave. He couldn't stay out there and wait for you to come back forever. Eventually he would have to leave and then you could try to get help from someone else, maybe even the statue. There might even be a cavern or other exit at the bottom of the pond.
The boy sings happily as he continues his work. You finally decide to....
