You are sleeping peacefully when you suddenly feel very cold. Before you open your eyes you feel someone grab you by the ankles of your furry paws and lift you high into the air. You screech and caw in a panic, wildly swinging the clawed talons that replaced your hands, desperately trying to find something to hold onto. Your wings flap rapidly behind you. As your eyes gradually adjust to your surroundings, you see a young girl in a pink frilly dress surrounded by soldiers in medieval armor.
"Oh, she is the one. She is perfect. I want her," says the young girl.
"As you wish, princess," says the man holding you.
You twist around in his grasp to get a better look at him. He is wearing a loose-fitting green tunic, with a bow strapped across his back. Thick gloves are holding tightly onto your ankles. He looks like a hunter or ranger from some Dungeons and Dragons game!
The griffon who captured you is struggling behind the ranger, surrounded by more soldiers and bound tightly with multiple ropes. Her beak is bound, but you can tell she is upset. A single tear runs down her cheek. As the ranger hands you to the princess, the griffon redoubles its efforts to break free. The soldiers reward her with a savage blow to the head and she goes still. You hope she is unconscious and not dead.
The princess nuzzles you, hugging you tightly and pressing you against her chest.
"She is beautiful. I think I will call her ..... Jenna, " says the princess happily.
As she squeezes you tightly for another hug, you instinctively claw at her arm with your sharp talons, drawing blood. The princess drops you and grabs the wound on her arm, trying to stem the flow of blood. The soldiers surrounding the princess draw their swords and advance.
You run towards the griffon, hoping to find protection from your adoptive mother. As you snuggle against her chest you hear a faint heartbeat. You press your beak against her body, trying to wake her. But once again someone grabs your ankles and lifts you high in the air with lightning quick speed. You thrash wildly, but cannot break free of the ranger's grasp.
"It.... it hurt me...." says the princess with disbelief.
"I did warn you, your highness. The beauty of these creatures is only matched by their ferocity. They are wild creatures, after all. Are you sure you really want to keep something like this as a pet?" asks the ranger.
The princess gives the ranger a look of pure hate. You get the impression she is not used to being denied anything, by man or beast. She looks like the kind of spoiled child who has always gotten whatever they desired, thanks to their doting parents.
"Jenna just needs to get to know me better. Well, that and maybe a little discipline and training, " says the princess with a wicked smile. "Cage her. But put the cage in my carrier."
The princess turns and flees behind the crowd of guards, still holding onto her sore arm. The ranger sighs and places you in a small cage.
"Sorry about this, Jenna. But the princess' word is law. And I am bound by her commands, " said the ranger sadly. "But life in the castle might not be that bad. You may even learn to enjoy being a pet... after a while. "
The ranger then drops a cloth over the cage and you are surrounded by darkness.
