Kellie didn't know why, but for some odd reason she almost walked right by her own house, she stopped to turn and quickly made her way inside.
"Kellie, is that you?" A woman in her late thirties to early 40s called from the living room.
"Yeah mom, I just got back from Katie's house is all." Kellie said to her mom.
"Oh really? So how is your little girlfriend these days?" A man in his early 40s jokingly asked her.
"Dad, for the millionth time, she's just my best friend, not my girlfriend." Kellie said blushing a little bit.
"If you say so honey. Just remember to go to your room and do your homework." Kellie's dad said to her.
"Yes dad." Kellie said giving her father a kiss on the head before going into her room.
Lee and Maggie did very much love their daughter. For many years, they had tried to have a baby, but it seemed like Maggie would never have any until one day out of the blue as if like a miracle: Kellie came. Her parents got her into after-school activities and sometimes went on vacations together, but sometimes they were worried that while Kellie interacted with other school kids, she never quite made any real friends. That was until the day she met Katie. The two happened to see each other outside one day while coming home from elementary school and began talking to each other and pretty soon, Kellie's parents and Katie's aunt began to arrange play dates, then when the girls got older they just began hanging out with each other.
While Kellie was in her room, she started to think about what her dad had joked about, but became a little bit confused about her emotions now than before. Did she really have a crush on her best friend? She would have to sort these feelings out over time though as she soon had homework to do.
