The first thing Anna did next was call Skyla, and tell her of their 'victory.'
"YES!" Skyla's voice echoed over the phone. Then in a quick voice, "N-nothing boss! Yes boss! Won't shout like that again! ... Ugh. Can you please come here and help me out?"
Anna knew exactly what kind of 'help' Skyla wanted, but Anna didn't disprove.
"Sure Skyla, but I want to do a couple more before coming over, and Cassidy is shadowing me like big brother wanted, and it'll get weird soon."
"... Can you do me a favor as long as you're not leaving right away?"
"Sure!"
"Have any other changes you do as 'maids' please."
"Oh, phooey."
"So you will?"
"We're in this together, so it wouldn't be nice for me to turn down a request from a friend."
"Oh, and set your phone to video send, I want to see this if I can't be there in person!"
"If reality changes then it won't be recorded."
"Yeah but I still watch while it's happening!"
"Okay."
Anna did some tinkering with her phone, much easier than she could have done before her change, and set it up so Skyla could watch the show.
"Hey Anna, are we gonna stick around here much longer? I know the twins love this place, but I'm not a giant fan." Anna almost jumped out of her skin with Cassidy came up behind her.
"Don't worry," Anna said, calming herself down, "Just picking up a couple of the others."
"And you should honor your elders Cassidy!" Skya said over the phone.
Cassidy stood at attention. "Yes mam!"
Anna looked around for her next victim, er, convert, when one of the care takers wheeled out an incredibly old man on a wheel chair. Bald, his teeth missing, blind in one eye, he looked more like a skeleton than a man, he practically shrank into his robes. She wheeled him into the middle of the garden.
"Will that... will that do sir?"
"... Y... Yes... T-thank you," the old man wheezed out, and laid back, his entire body limp, breathing barely invisible.
"I ... I can still get the -"
"N-No! I... No, just let me... rest."
Anna wasn't thick. Cassidy looked very uncomfortable looking at the incredibly old man.
She aimed the ray gun, taking just a moment to confirm, yes, he wasn't a father. She remembered what Skyla had asked, and honored her request. She'd toggle the 'chose the animal you want to be' later. They'd see if 'old age' counted as a deficiency or not later.
She pulled the trigger, and colored lightning arched from the childish looking gun and hit the ancient old man.
And he exploded in a ball of flame. Anna panicked, had she done something wrong? Was he too old? Had she caused a rip in the same time continuum and reality itself was going to come undone!?
Anna dropped the ray gun, it was completely undamaged. Anna fell to her knees. She heard Skyla saying something over the phone. What had she done? What had she done?!
"Anna-anesan fall down?"
'Oh right, I was think of ... a phoenix whenever they die, they simply start a new cycle... they turn to ash, then resurrect.'
In front of her was a toddler, who may or may not have still been in diapers. It wasn't easy to tell with the adorable maid dress she was wearing. The material she was wearing was odd, not exactly silky, and looked a little stiff... it was a fire proof dress. It was... really puffy... It was also red with gold highlights rather than the black maid unicorn Skyla and their mouse maid wore.
Each one of her feathers looked like a tongue of flame. Her feathers were a mix of reds and oranges, her beak was golden and gleamed in the light like fire, and her eye shined like hot coals. The air around her felt definitely warmer. She had a cute plumage on her head. Her feet were bare, showing golden claws as sharp as a hot poker. Her tail feather waved behind her like a peacock. Her arms were bare, though they resembled wings more than hands... could she fly? Technically speaking she shouldn't have been able to get enough lift with them... but then again the twins didn't even have wings.
"I... I'm fine... dear."
Now Anna knew how Curt felt, not knowing her name.
"We gonna seen Oneesan today?!"
'Big brother?' The ray gun instructions, had only said 'love unconditionally' it had said NOTHING about what KIND of love, familial love was as valid as any other.
Anna picked the ray-gun back up.
"Kasai, welcome home kiddo!" Cassidy said picking the toddler phoenix maid.
'That saves us some awkward moments,' Anna thought.
