The sharp beep from the computer pulled Chris from his nap. He sat up from his lower bunk and saw the countdown on the Chronivac had finally finished.
"About time," Chris muttered as he rolled out of bed.
After he'd applied the changes to Anthony an hour ago, the Chronivac interface had frozen up, stating that no other actions could be performed until the changes were completed, whatever that meant. It had been kind of a letdown. How hard was it to change a few numbers, anyway? Luckily, Chris didn't have any classes today, so he had opted to take a nap while he waited.
Chris sat in front of the computer and glanced over Anthony's stats. He chuckled, noting that the suburban dad package had shot Anthony's age up to 45, and his weight to 290 lbs. It then went into detail about his body measurements, which Chris was able to determine implied a person of substantial girth. Chris only wished it could show him some sort of picture, so he could see what Anthony might look like as a suburban dad. That and a print option. Maybe Anthony might get a laugh seeing his simulated stats. Or maybe not. It was hard to tell with him.
Chris figured he'd try one more package out before putting the thing away. The simulations were kind of neat, but its ultra-thorough scanning abilities seemed to be the more interesting feature.
As Chris attempted to select another package, a text window popped up.
"TARGET OUT OF RANGE."
Right. Chris still had Anthony selected, and apparently this thing's range was fairly limited. He glanced over the available targets. With a shrug, he selected his own name. He'd ran a simulation with his roommate, he might as well try one on himself.
After a cursory glance over his own stats, again impressed with just how accurate they probably were, he selected another package. Not getting any complaints from the computer, he moved on to the the change settings. He bumped the change time down from 1 hour to 15 minutes. He assumed the longer the change time, the more accurate the simulation. Still he didn't feel like waiting a whole hour for it to finish. He also left the duration of change at the default 24 hours, as he had no idea what it was.
Chris applied the changes and began getting ready to take a shower, figuring the Chronivac would be done by the time he got out. The green light on the scanning device flickered as a timer appeared on the screen. "14 minutes until changes complete."
