Jacob is Forced to Act like Jenny

added by LadyJaye 5 years ago AR TG

“But now I know the things I know
And do the things I do,
And if you do not like me so,
To hell, my love, with you.”

“It's never too late to have a happy childhood.”
Robbins, Tom. (1980). Still Life with Woodpecker. Random House, Inc.

“Jenny?” Jacob wondered aloud. “Who's Jenny?”

The girl giggled, “You are silly! How could I forget my best friend in the world!”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, Kaitlyn – I don't know who Jenny is, but she ain't me.”

That's what Jacob tried to say.

The words just wouldn't come forth from his lips.

He couldn't quite force his tongue to articulate the phrases, couldn't push breath past his vocal chords, couldn't control the muscles of mouth and throat at all. His mind thought the words quite clearly. But someone or something entirely else had abruptly seized control of the musculature of his face and neck, and now Jacob had to listen to himself uttering aloud words he had never consciously composed.

“I'm just teasing, Kaitlyn!” he chirped in the sing-song soprano voice of a young teenage girl. “Whassup, BFF? You still wanna get together tonight and play our cosplay?”

“Oh, yeah, totally!” replied Kaitlyn. “I've just got to feed my mom some BS about catching up on my math homework. But let's plot of cosplay. And I was thinking, we could test things out before going to a convention by writing and filming our own play, and we'll post in on youtube?”

That is the dumbest possible ideas in an ocean of a dumb ideas, thought Jacob. A duo of ditzy manga fangirls, dressing up as Japanese cartoon characters and acting out (and filming and posting online) their own amateurish rendering of what was likely pretty pathetic crap in the first place … oh, yes! That's a much better expenditure of time than, oh I don't know, doing your homework when you're flunking math.

That's what Jacob tried to say.

The words that came out his small, rosebud lips were: “That is, like, the coolest idea ever, BFF! Let's totally do our own version of Fruits Basket.”

“Well, let's consider that a back-up,” replied Kaitlyn. “What I really want to try is Attack on Titan. I just know we could do our own awesomely perfect version of it – with, like, just you and me doing all the different characters. We can do special effects on the computer, and it'll be so much fun making our own costumes. Gosh, I can't wait to start. Can we do it?”

“Of, course!” giggled Jacob involuntarily – very, very involuntarily. “I'd love to do Attack on Titan. Let's go plan it all out right now!”

What Jacob wanted to do now was to walk back to his own house.

What he actually did was tug on his ponytail, adjusting his girlish hairstyle a bit. Then he followed Kaitlyn into her house and up to her room, where the two girls immediately set about scheming their anime antics.
