After a few hours of driving, Tom and Alice had finally reached the town of Moon Lake. While Alice was keeping her eyes on the road, Tom was looking out the car window, admiring the town.
"So this is Moon Lake?" Tom asked. "It's a lot bigger than I expected."
"Were you expecting some kind of small farm town?" Alice joked.
"What? No! Not at all!" Tom said quickly. "I just wasn't expecting it to be as big as it is..."
"It's not that big, Tom," Alice said. "But to an outsider, I guess it can look pretty big. After all, this town was built as a sanctuary for weres of all kind. Back when it was founded, people were scared of weres and hunted them down. So to protect weres, this town was founded to keep the secret."
"But what about when new people who aren't weres move in?" Tom asked. "Won't they tell someone?"
"That's one of the conditions to live here," Alice explained. "When you live here, you must promise to never expose the existence of weres to anyone, and if you have a family, you need to select one member to become the 'family were'".
"Huh..." Tom said. "And I guess you don't have to do any of that if you're already a were when you move here."
"That's right," Alice said. "Anyway, when I called my mom earlier, she said that they'd both be out by the time we get to their house. She said that there was a spare house key in the back, and she gave me the code to get it."
"Okay," Tom said. "I can't wait to meet your folks."
Alice leaned over and kissed his cheek. "They'll love you," she said.
