Luke and Max ran back downstairs--maybe there was something that Santa could tell them that would explain everything. But when the boys had gotten to the bottom of the stairs, they saw the couch--and no one there!
Fortunately, there was some paper that certainly wasn't on the couch before. It read as follows:
"Luke,
If you are reading this, then you know what has just happened to me. I knew you were watching me, and I'm afraid I must go to recover and have my wounds treated. Fortunately, I was able to leave some of the information I can tell you here in this note. First, you must be wondering who was here and what they meant. They were originally three brothers--Trip, Paul, and Brett--who were once wrestlers here in your town. However, they wanted to get stronger, so they each asked for something that allow them to do so. So I made the suit for them and they used it to assume a new identity: Triple Threat (this may sound like a character from a TV show, but this incarnation is vastly different, I assure you). They were able to become professional wrestlers by using this suit to become a strong three-headed man. Unfortunately, the power went to their heads, and they began to use it for ill deeds. This eventually caught up with them right before the championship game, when the wrestling federation found out about this and banned them from all future matches. Naturally, the brothers didn't take it well. They were planning to take revenge and show up for their championship anyway--I had to step in, so I took the suit back when they weren't looking, though they must have seen me or they wouldn't have known I took it and beaten me here and now. Knowing they would come looking for me, I hid in plain sight as a Santa at your mall. When I read your mind there and discovered your wish, I decided to hide the suit among the other clothes I put in your closet. I'm sorry that I got you, your father, and your friends mixed up in all this, but I had to keep that suit away from those brothers no matter what. I would strongly recommend you avoid going after them, but I know that you will anyway. Just remember, there is strength in numbers."
Luke and Max were amazed at what they read. They quickly ran back upstairs to find the others. As soon as the friends were reassembled down in the basement, Luke presented the letter for them to read. All of them had finished reading when Luke's dad Ethan came in with Scott, the father of Mark, Max, and Zack. After they read the letter, all fifteen of them sank to the floor, overcome by the weight of the backstory.
