Coach Randall counted both sides. “You’re right.”
“The number of boys and girls has to be equal,” stated the cheer coach. “One cheerleader for every player. Certain conventions must be kept, after all. You’ll simply have to give up some of yours.”
Conventions? Matt wondered what they could be talking about. So far, nothing about this scenario had struck him as conventional. Then again, the general apathy keeping him from panicking or questioning these circumstances prevented him from worrying about it too much. If Miss Wells said there had to be conventions, then it must be so.
