Changing Cards: Andrew goes to the Introduction

added by writem 7 years ago O

Andrew looked at the color coded decks on the counter, noting they were called Changing Cards according to the name the back of each deck along with the theme. It was hard to choose given he had only just heard about the game and partially remembered the rules the ticket guy had explained, who was now helping other arcade goers. After several long minutes Andrew was about to walk away and do something else when a older man walked up beside him.

"Geesh, no wonder interest and sales are so low here," he said shaking his head dismayed. Andrew noticed he was wearing a black t shirt that had Changing Cards written across the front and back in multi-colored letters. "Still giving these basic decks without the rule pamphlet."

"Oh hey, were you looking to try Changing Cards?" asked the man as he finally detected that someone was next to him. "I'm Ben a representative of Changing Cards. We're holding a introduction to game over by the food court facing exit. You can try out practice decks to learn the rules, play against the computer on the machine that's been installed, and, get starters and boosters for at discount. There will even be a small tournament too."

"Huh, sure I guess I'll check it out." says Andrew and heads over to where the man said. Not like I have much else to do he thought.

The exit was bustling with people talking to representatives, trying out the machine that boasted four fronts, each facing a different direction, or at a table playing against another person or representative. Going to a table with an 'Info' sign Andrew looked over a vast selection of decks, that were grey on the back with the Changing Cards name in multi-colored letters. Some were labeled by theme, such as Muscle, Gender, Age or Mind, while others seemed to suggest a type of play style, Swarmer, Heavy Hitter, Rapid Assault, Titan Maker.

"Hi there, I'm Petra," said a smiling woman in a representative's shirt behind the table. "Did you want to know about Changing Cards?"

"Umm, yes I did."

"Great, so its pretty simple but very fun and involving with the goal being to make your opponent submit, give up or be unable to play. First You and your opponent decide who gets first turn, coin flip, rock paper scissors, up to you and then you both draw five cards. Each turn works like this a player has three 'actions' per turn, which you can use to either: draw a card, play a card on the field or activate a card," she explained and handed Andrew a small booklet. He kept listening, but still wondered about the strange sounding win conditions. "Cards come in three varieties: Creature, Effect, and Generator."

"Creatures you use to attack your opponent and block incoming attacks and effects. So they are quite important unless to keep from getting overwhelmed. Effects are just that, they cause different changes to happen to whatever is specified on the card. Certainly powerful but they don't continuing causing their changes for more than a turn or two, said changes are permanent though unless another card gets rid of them. Generators are a combination of Creature and Effect. They can't attack directly but can block and persist until gotten rid of like Creatures. They also cause changes but these are weaker than Effect cards while lasting until the Generator is gotten rid of," Petra finished with a deep breathe. "Hope you got all that. If you didn't just check that booklet."

"Umm, thanks, I think did." replied Andrew as he put the booklet in his pocket.

"Cool what do you want to do?"
