"Hush up, now" Paul said, opening the door. "All that crying will make a bad impression on the boys." Matt wiped his eyes, suddenly realizing that he didn't feel like crying after all. "Bryan, Brett!" Paul hollered, his enormous voice echoing in the small ears of Matt and Jim. They clapped their small hands over their ears.
There was no reply. Paul hollered again, his big legs easily moving him across the giant carpet and away from the small men. "Well, I guess they're already gone to school," Paul said, fingering the wand. "Scamper on up stairs; I'll meet you in my room in just a minute."
Matt and Jim didn't hesitate as they climbed up the stairs. It was harder work than they expected, each stair being a significant fraction of their height. Paul wandered away into the house, and didn't reappear by the time they reached the top of the stairs. But, Matt knew which room was Paul's, so he led the way.
Paul soon reappeared. "I'm going to work," he announced. "I'm sure this is going to be a memorable day for everyone on the site," he laughed. "You two, get to work cleaning up this room. I want it spotless by the time I get home." Without waiting for a reply, he turned and left, shaking the floor with his massive feet as he strode away.
"I'm sorry I got mad at you earlier, son" Jim said. He was calm and relaxed. "Those wishes don't come for free. And that wish he placed on us was a really big one. I'm sure he's already started to pay for it, somehow." The small men walked over to the bed. "All we have to do is wait for our opportunity. Sooner or later, it will come."
