About this time another car comes swerving to a stop at the side of the road just outside of town. The passengers Mike and Loretta Shanes and their two teenage children seventeen year old John and fifteen year old Jennifer.
The Shanes were a perfect example of an American dysfunctional family if there ever was one.
Mr. Shines was an alcoholic, workaholic, and self-indulgent middle aged man who felt life owed him more than what he has received.
However Mrs. Shanes wasn’t much better, having similar attitude and beliefs as her husband did. Both were sick of each other and in a desperate need of change.
Then came Johnny, at seventeen, shaved his head, got two vulgar tattoos and smoked pot right in front of his parents. If there was a statement to be made, he was making it.
Jennifer was falling right into place, or maybe out of place depending on how you view it. She had just dropped out of high school, dyed her hair blue and got piercing in unmentionable places. Mom and dad had their suspicions about her because she only seemed interested in other girls.
The trip started with a massive family argument which has lasted the entire trip up to know.
They started out headed to good ol’ sunny California to engage in the first and probably last vacation they would ever have.
Mike got out of the car, inspected the shredded tire, then found that the spare was in the same condition.
Before long and without prior contact, a tow truck pulled up and a man named Zeke gets out and offers to help.
