Ken turned around and saw Dan. "I haven't seen you since high school."
Dan asked, "Are you one of the test subjects? I thought you invested in the stock market and made it big."
Ken said, "I did at first but the stock market was too complicated for me to follow. It was too much like gambling and I lost big time. What about you? Are you one of the scientists?"
Dan said, "Lab assistant. I only just turned twenty-one like you. Excuse me a minute."
Dan left to find Dr. Howard. "Ken Williams is registered for experiment twelve? Isn't that a bit drastic?"
Dr. Howard said, "He signed the papers."
Dan said, "I doubt he knew what he was signing. Couldn't we reassign him to experiment three instead?"
Dr. Howard asked, "Do you know him?"
Dan said, "Yes, he's a friend of mine from high school."
Dr. Howard said, "That could be a problem. Do we need to lose you as a lab assistant which would cost you the scholarship opportunity or can you stay professionally detached from the test subject."
Dan gulped, "I can stay professionally detached."
Dr. Howard said, "Good. Your friend signed up for experiment twelve because the pay is better. He might not understand exactly what he signed up for but he knows that experiment twelve is more 'drastic' then experiment three. That's good enough for me. Besides, no real harm will happen to him. He's just going to fall asleep in his body and wake up in a different body. He may even decide he likes his new body better."
Meanwhile, Ken was led to a room where he changed into a hospital gown. The nurse put an IV in his arm and Ken started feeling drowsy. He really didn't know what he had signed up for.
