Katie awoke to the sound of her alarm going off, yawning she reached for it shutting the buzzer off. Stretching she made her way downstairs to see a Aunt Lisa getting breakfast ready. Katie suppressed a giggle upon seeing her aunt. Lisa had yet to take the two braided pigtails Katie had given her out yet. “Morning mom,” she giggled. “Like the new look.”
Lisa looked at her niece and grinned. “Ha, ha kid very funny,” she smirked. “Don’t get too used to this. I’m going to have to shower and redo my hair before I run some errands.”
“I don’t know I think the pigtails are a cute look for you,” Katie giggled.
Lisa playfully stuck out her tongue as she handed Katie her breakfast. “Yea right,” she sighed. “I look like Pippy Longstocking. Pigtails are cute at seven not 35. Now finish up you don’t want to miss the bus.”
Katie grinned as she began to eat. “Oh Lisa wanted to tell you that me and Kellie are going to the mall after school today,” she said. Lisa gave Katie an inquisitive look as she gazed at her aunt. “Okay that’s fine, any reason why?”
Katie shrugged. “We’re meeting up with some friends I promise I’ll be home in time for dinner. I’ll promise I’ll call if we’re running late.”
Lisa sighed as she began to place some dishes in the dishwasher. “Okay,” she said. “Just try to be back on time. I’m heading to the lawyers office today to start the process of officially adopting you. I was hoping we could have a nice dinner to celebrate.”
Katie smiled as she hugged her aunt. “I promise I’ll be home by dinner,” she said. “And hey who knows maybe I can rebraid your hair again. Maybe even read you a bedtime story.” Lisa laughed as she understood what her niece was saying. “Maybe another time kiddo,” she says. “I’ll admit I had fun but It’s still a little surreal that you can do that. Give me a little time to adjust first okay.”
Katie nodded as she grabbed her backpack. “I will,” she said, hugging her aunt. “Anyway gotta run I don’t want to miss the bus. Love you mom.” Lisa hugged her niece tightly as she Absorbed those words. “Love you too kid.”
Katie raced out the door to the bus stop as she approached she could see Kellie waiting for her. “Hey Katie how are you,” She asked. “I’m good,” Katie replied. “Sorry I didn’t call ended having some girl time with my aunt. It was nice I’m just surprised she’s finally going through with the adoption.”
Kellie smiled as she hugged her girlfriend. “I’m so happy for you,” she said. “Any idea how long it will take.” Katie shrugged, to be honest she did not know but she hoped it would be soon. The girls continued to talk as the bus pulled up. Climbing on the girls took their usual spots as they now focused on what would be happening after school. Neither girl had any idea what would happen or why the girls wanted to meet their. Kellie had some suspicions but she didn’t want to say anything, she had made a promise and didn’t want to lose Mika and Claudia’s trust.
Katie too had a secret she didn’t want to share. Although her and Kellie shared everything she failed to mention that she told aunt Lisa about the ring. Katie wasn’t sure how Kellie would react and didn’t want to upset her friend. As the bus pulled up to the school Katie and Kellie waited for their friends to arrive. In only a few moments the two teens saw Mary Elise and Samantha approach. “Hey girls how’s it going?” They asked in unison.
The four girls now engaged in idol chit chat waiting for the bell to ring. No one could tell what Mika and Claudia wanted to talk about. They hoped that whatever it was wouldn’t be bad though as all four them had plans. All of them would be going on dates this weekend and began to talk about going out on a triple date together. Before they could finalize their plans though the bell rang signaling the start of school. The girls now waved goodbye as they ran towards home room to begin the school day.
