Rachael, slowly coming to terms with her new body, finished pulling her white shirt on to her torso. The pink heart on the chest matched the pink skirt and tennis-shoes that Katie had let her borrow.
"Rachael, your parents are here to get you!" Miss Punnit yelled.
"Just a minute, Miss Punnit!" Rachael called back. Karen had entered the room.
Rachael looked at her, worried, and then moved to giver her a hug. Karen flinched, but didn't resist. Rachael whispered to her. "Just call my mom if you need anything. Okay?" Karen nodded. "I still love you."
At this, Karen showed a hint of a smile, but nothing more. She left the room.
When Rachael got downstairs, she saw her parents talking to Miss Punnit.
"Thanks again, Alice." Roseanne said.
Tom continued. "We cannot thank you enough. Having a daughter will take some getting used too, but we'll manage." He saw her. "Oh hey, uhh..." Tom looked to Alice, who gestured for him to continue. He continued awkwardly. "... Pumpkin? Come here." Rachael ran to her dad's arms, and he picked her up. He looked at Roseanne and mouthed, 'Am I doing this right?' Roseanne just shrugged, a confused look on her face.
"Bye, Miss Punnit," Rachael said as Tom carried her out the door.
"And thanks again!" Roseanne called.
"No problem, guys! Have a good day, Rachael!" Alice called. Rachael gave her a thumbs up. Alice closed the door, sighing. If she had just let Declan change back, then maybe things wouldn't have gone this far. But he... she was happy as Daisy, and that was all Alice could've asked for.
