Life in the Forest... Will Never be the Same Again...

added 5 years ago A

The morning sun began to rise, stretching its rays out across the very tops of the dark, forbidding Ever Greens.

I awoke from my peaceful slumber, to fine that Dawn was on its way.
Yes, Dawn. The perfect time for catching mice.

Oh, did I mention That I'm a cat?
Oh dear, I haven't introduced myself at all have I !
Well to start, my name is Lunar. I was named after the night sky because of my "jet black" color.

Anyway, as I was saying; the birds were only starting to ecological the bright, beautiful day, wale I on the other paw was already up and out of my small den.

And now the search begins!
Creeping silently along the ground, I weaved my way around the clumps and clusters of the wood-land grasses.
Dark green pines, with almost a blueish tint left by the last shadows, loomed over me.
This was my forest and I knew it well. I lived here alone, under a bunch of bushes. I hunted on my own. I protroled on my own.
Sure there was the occasional traveler, but not many stayed long for they were just passing through.
But I don't mind living alone. After all, cats are solitary creatures of God's creation.

I moved on, until I came to the clearing near where I lived.
The pile of oak leaves, close the one circle of not-pine-trees, looked suspiciously like it was hiding something...

Using my best, and favorite, prey catching crouch, I began putting my four paws in front of one another.
Slowly, quietly, calmly, I descended upon the tall, autumn grass closing the gap between me and the mice that were surely there.
Paw-step by paw-step, I came ever closer, until... I SPRANG!!!

I felt the rush of excitement and adrenaline, as I seemed to fly though the air. Landing squarely on the pile of leaves, I was rewarded with the sight of four , poor, soon to be breakfast, mice scuttling for cover!
Grabbing them swiftly with my sharp claws, I predictedly bit their tiny necks; leaving them lifeless.
Scooping them up, I carefully carried them over to a surtain spot under a pine.
There I berried them.
Whenever winter came, which I knew would be soon, I would have a store of prey to eat while the rest hid underground.
•••
Upon returning to my burrow, I was greeted with a surprise.
Through the nearby Ever Greens' branches, I scenced that something knew had arrived in my forest home.

A small building now stood where only trees had been when I had left about an hour before.
Suspicious, I cautiously slinked low to the earth reaching a distance of the feet away from the dwelling.
It smelled different, like nothing I had ever scented before. Yet, it did not seem to be frightful or wrong in anyway. It just didn't belong.

Looking around, I could spot no one around that could perhaps own this strange building.
Noiticing that the wooden door was open a crack, I casually walked over to it.
A dim light shone from somewhere inside. Turning my head yet again, there still appeared to be nobody around.
Surely the owner (of what I now considered the building to be a tiny store of some sort) would not stray to faraway from his or her business would they?

Feeling a rush of excitement, with a cat-like smile on my feline face, I slipped inside...
