She heard a knock on the door, and the voice of a scared teen boy on the other side screaming "Open up! For GOD'S sake, please LET ME IN!!!"
"Fine, I'm coming!" Tanya said, pausing the movie and getting up towards the door "Don't get your pants in a twist!"
As soon as she opened the door, the teen boy ran inside, grabing Tanya as he shut the door, and they hid behind a sofa.
He motioned for her to be quiet, and they heard.....footsteps outside......and the voices of kids - young boys and girls that sounded...... almost TOO happy!
"Derrick!" one of the elf boys called out "Why did you run?"
"We only wanted to have some fun with you." said one elf girl, sounding almost hurt "Don't you want to play with us?"
The two teens said nothing, and continued to hide.
"Let's come back here later." the elf boy suggested "Maybe he'll change his mind?"
"Sounds good." replied the elf girl "I'm sure he will in time. A mother knows these things." and they walked off elsewhere to eat some candy.
Once Derrick was certain that the elves were gone, he properly introduced himself to Tanya, and explained his situation.
"Those where my parents." the redheaded green-eyed teen boy told her "They were infected as you could hear. I watched them change right in front of me! It was horrifying to watch them gain those big pointy ears, long pointy noses, doll-like eyes, and .......those wide smiles on their faces! I don't want to wind up like that, so I ran for my humanity, and that's what brought me here. I'm sorry I barged in like this, but you have to understand - I was desparate!" and he broke down in tears.
After thinking about what he said, Tanya replied "So what's your game-plan now?"
"Do you have a car?" Derrick asked.
"Yes," Tanya replied "but my parents and my little sister are still out shopping for food and other things. I'd like to wait for them to get back first."
"While we wait," Derrick said while shaking in fear "more of those.......THINGS......could show up!"
"You make a good point," Tanya replied, seeing his side of things "but I love my family, and I don't want to just leave them to this plague! Tell you what: I'll just call my mom on her cell phone, and ask her to come home immediately with dad, and little sis!"
"And what if they're already elves?" Derrick asked in concern.
"Then I'll at least talk to them." Tanya replied "Either way, I'll get an idea of what's going on out there."
"I heard there's a refuge three miles outside of this town," Derrick informed her "so getting there is our best bet of staying human. We just have to make it all the way there somehow without being 'elfed', and I think that'll be a fairly tall order in and of itself."
"First, I have to call my mom, alright?" Tanya told him.
"Fine," Derrick told her "but please be quick about it. My elfed parents might come back at amy moment!"
So without wasting any more time, Tanya dialed her mom's number on her cell phone, and..........
