You and Lydia had a great time at prom. Arriving at afterwards at Monica's party you found lots of fellow students already there. You were amazed by the size of the house, but Lydia had been there before for swim team parties and wasn't impressed.
"Her parents are rich" Lydia whispered to you. "That's why she's such a spoiled brat."
Both of you had fun chatting with friends, and enjoying the snacks and drinks. Monica's parents had, unsurprisingly, spared no expense but were also nowhere in sight. Neither of you had seem Monica or any of her clique at prom nor so far at the party so you were both feeling very relaxed.
After awhile Lydia suggested you both head outside for some fresh air. "The moon should up by now and we can watch the waves" she added.
"Maybe even go for a walk on the beach?" you suggested.
Lydia smiled at the thought and the two of you headed out onto the house's deck. It was a great view of the beach, with only a few scattered homes in either direction. The deck also featured a pool, hot tub, outdoor grill, and a small bar. Most of the people on the deck had a bottle, can, or plastic cup in hand with beer or, in some cases, something stronger. Unfortunately, the deck - or more specifically the bar - was precisely where Monica had been. She spotted you and Lydia a moment after you spotted here and immediately headed in your direction with an uneven walk that made it clear she'd been drinking since the party started, if not before. Like most of the partygoers she was still in her prom clothes, and in typical Monica fashion her dress was bright red and as low cut as she could get away with, showing off the cleavage between her ample artificial breasts. Several of Monica's friends from swim team and a jock you guessed was Monica's current boy-toy followed in her wake.
"Well if isn't little miss fish bitch" Monica slurred.
Lydia was briefly taken aback, thinking Monica was somehow aware of the recent mermaid happenings, but quickly realized she was just referring to swim team. She sighed. "Really, Monica? Swim team is done. High school is almost over. Everyone is here to have a good time. Can't we drop this?"
"No, we can't. You were only swim team captain because you were a brown-noser with Couch Loch. I'm better than you."
"Oh get over yourself. You never once beat me in a race this year. Besides, team captain isn't about being the fastest swimmer. You never cared about the team, you just cared that you looked good. Loch knows you're a selfish prima donna. That's the real reason you were never captain."
Lydia should probably have stopped there, but she was so frustrated she kept going. "Maybe if you go to college mommy and daddy will make a nice bribe - I mean donation - to the school to ensure you're swim team captain."
Already in a foul mood, that was enough to set Monica off and she shoved Lydia, sending her into the pool.
"Oh shit" was the first thing that went through your mind. Lydia was going to start turning into a mermaid and her secret could be exposed to half the school - all of the school by the time Monica's rumor mill got going. If you went in after her you would start changing too. At the same time, you were pissed at Monica. You weren't going to a hit a girl, but maybe a distraction would help Lydia escape? Maybe Monica should go for a swim too?
As for Lydia, she hit the water before she knew what was happening. She was briefly dazed by hitting the water suddenly and flat on her back. Lydia could feel her legs begin to tingle immediately and knew she had to get out of the pool ASAP before she transformed.
