"Steph... I just realized... there are security cameras all over this place! Someone will have had to have seen us when they look at the tapes! Maybe someone can help us!" And Jenny thought of getting vicious, brutal revenge on that little nothing Kyle, the misery she'd put him through before wouldn't be a iota of what she'd do to him with the full brute force of her family's wealth down on him!
"... Jenny, I actually thought of that... but wouldn't the motion detector alarms have gone off by now too? Why haven't the police shown up? Or security? Or emergency security gates if those things are real? This mall has plenty of safety measures to prevent thieves. We're locked in here. But think about it... Unless there's a giant conspiracy to keep magic unknown... at which point wouldn't we have been 'take care of' by now? ... I think that while we're like this, we're part of the mall even if we can move... and somehow that translates into somehow the security system not picking us up. After all... if we just move about from store to store... people would and should notice us being 'stolen' or at least, that two vanish from one store and appear in another where none were before? I think while we're moving, we're retroactively as far as any human who sees us, would have always been in that pose. So the security system doesn't go off, because it thinks we've been in that pose since we started moving."
Jenny startled, she hadn't really thought about the particulars, she'd just been happy to be able to move again. But what Steph said also made her realize... she hadn't once thought about escaping... nor about writing a message to someone... even if no one remembered her, a mannequin writing down complex messages all over the mall would eventually get to where it couldn't be brushed off as a prank by employees.
Was she and Steph really just part of the mall now? COULD she leave even if she could smash the front doors open? Could she even BRING herself to do that? Jenny got ready to violently push over a display rack... but couldn't go through with it, it felt like she was doing something truly unspeakable.
Jenny sighed. Was this really her fate? "Steph, I get it, you like this... for whatever reason. But I don't, how can you expect me to be happy with this? I had a family who had EVERYTHING."
Steph gently hugged her. "Think of it like this... in some situations, there are things that are beyond our control, if the only power we have in that situation is how we feel... why not choose to be happy?"
Jenny admitted, she hadn't thought of it like that.
