Study in Contrast

added by Titus 5 years ago O

Emily wasn't sure who the blonde girl in front of her was, but the enormous diamonds in her earrings made her stop and stare. They probably cost more than her single mother made in a year, or even two. Sabrina grimaced and tossed her purse onto her desk, contents spilling out. "Of fucking course. The good times come to an end."

Emily blinked a bit, "Ummm, excuse me?"

Sabrina glared at her, "I'm sure you're, like, fine or whatever. But I thought I had this room to myself. You're like a week late!"

Emily blushed, "Oh, yeah my mom-"

Sabrina put her hand up between the two girls, "Later. Like, really. I don't need to know." She paused and sighed, "Sorry, I... I should be more polite. I'm Sabrina. I'm like, a freshman. Psychology."

Emily smiled, "Oh! I was thinking about studying Psychology too! I'm Emily."

Sabrina was preoccupied taking in Emily's threadbare jeans and crumpled black tee-shirt. "Uh-huh. Sure. You like, a scholarship kid?"

Emily nodded, blushing brightly. "Yeah, I was kind of okay in high school."

Sabrina seemed to think for a moment and smiled slowly. For some reason that only made Emily's heart sink. Sabrina stepped up and wrapped Emily into a hug that made the near foot of height difference between the taller blonde and Emily's childish form apparent. "Perfect! You can help me with classes, yeah?"

Emily sighed. Just like high school. "Of course, I'd love to Sabrina." Oh well, she thought, at least this way she could appease Sabrina. She was even more startled when Sabrina grinned and said, "We should go out, you know?"

"Ummm, out?" Emily's heart practically skipped a beat. What would her mom think? Would there be...boys?

"Yeah! My older brother is in Chi Lambda. We should go to their party tonight! You can meet my girlfriends Katie and Mary."

Something in Sabrina's tone made Emily want to back out but the force of the girl, the need to not back down made her smile, "Oh-okay. Let's do that?"

Sabrina squealed in delight, squeezing Emily again, "Let's get you into something..." She paused and smiled, "Better."

Emily sighed. She wasn't sure this wasn't worse than being detested, and in fact...

She watched as Sabrina walked over to her suitcase and opened it, pawing over her clothes and loudly proclaiming most of her clothes shit and trash. Emily felt her blood rising. Her mom had worked hard for her to have those clothes, to be here, and this dumb bimbo was treating it like garbage.

"Stop." Emily said, more firmly than she expected. She realized she was clenching the spell book tightly and she swallowed. "I'll dress myself, Sabrina."

Sabrina scoffed, "Whatever. You're like cute, in a nerdy little girl next door way anyway, Emily. I'm just trying to help you like, do well." Emily's cheeks grew hot as she snapped back, "Thank you, Sabrina. I'll see you outside."

Sabrina scoffed, "Right, yeah. We need to get going soon. I'll get the girls."

Emily nodded and as Sabrina turned to leave Emily glanced down at the book in her hands. She knew she probably shouldn't but what if she...
