Growing Down in the Chruch

added 5 years ago AR O

Trask leads you to a brightly painted building labeled Children's Dormitory. "You will find a comfortable bed here. There children are very well behaved, and you should fit in quite well."

You are both puzzled and uncomfortable with being left with kids - these people do not know you. It is even odder when you go in - this is a barracks-style dormitory, with bunk beds in rows. The kids are all in blue and white jumpsuits, ranging in age from about 6 to late teens - maybe 17 or 18. All three dozen kids come to attention when you enter and say in unison "Hello, Reverend Trask!" You are startled to find that they all look like brothers and sisters, with twins and even triplets. Blonde-haired and blue-eyed, they could all be child fashion models. Looking closer, you are sure they must be closely related - they are practically identical other than size.

"This man was lost and has been brought to us. I want you to welcome him and provide him with a place in the youth congregation."

The children all mob you suddenly as Trask makes a quick retreat. The kids are firing questions at you, apparently from the bible or some religious text. You can't think of answers to the complex ones, and you notice that the older kids back off and let a progressively younger group ask you questions. You are also being led further back in the dormitory. It is a little embarrassing to find yourself answering questions from the youngest kids, and missing even those. A small boy, the littlest of them and no more than 5 or 6, takes your hand. "That's OK! We gots lot of time to learn!"

The boy pulls you to the last row of bunks and points to the bottom. "I already got the top bed. So that's yours now."

A buzzer sounds and the kids all stop talking and climb into bed, taking off shoes and socks. The jump suits must also be their pajamas. The lights blink twice, and then go out, leaving you in darkness. The little boy says "Better get in your bunk. You don't want the Reverend to find you out of bed after lights out!"
