Transform or Dare?

Kyle's new lifestyle.

added 5 years ago A Canine

Jen eventually made it to school, a bit late, and shut the door on Kyle. "Leave me alone and just go ... do whatever dogs do all day." Kyle's heart sank as the door slammed on him. He sat there coming to terms with the fact that he now didn't belong in there with his friends and enemies at school. "Whatever dogs do" was going to be his life from now on. Jen was actually horrified with the curse she had just given him, but she didn't know what she could do about it, and she was still furious about the ridiculous curse he had given her.

So Kyle was left out there like the animal he now was. He began to walk around town seeing the sights with his new color-impaired vision. He could make out shades of blue, but everything else was the same dull hue. He tried to stay focused, but his new nose kept distracting him. The restaurants downtown were really messing with his mind! He could smell, quite distinctly, every type of food they were cooking. His stomach growled and his mouth watered. Finally he walked past a trash can and that's when he couldn't take it any more. He knew he should be disgusted by what was in there, but the aromas of cheese, bread, beef, yogurt, and small amounts of chicken were driving him wild. He whined and gazed longingly at the receptacle. He finally jumped up on his hind legs, tipped it over, and chowed down. The smell of human hands and saliva on his feast was not even close to enough to override the satisfaction of finally getting his mouth around this stuff! He felt his long tail wagging back and forth while his sharp teeth ripped bags and wrappings to shreds. It was quite a while before he was full enough to stop. Damn, that was good! Kyle knew he should be ashamed of himself more making such a mess, but he now understood why dogs find it so irresistible.

About to continue his wanderings, Kyle found himself drawn to the scents coming from the fence beside the trash can. His snout told him the whole story. Apparently this was a very popular place with many of the local canines: a small male dog, a few females, and a very dominant male. Even a coyote had made his mark here at least a week ago. Kyle wasn't sure why we he cared so much about other animals visiting his little food trough. Back in school, he would have been bored reading Shakespeare, now here he was mesmerized reading other dogs' scent markings. A building urge in his groin reminded him that he was perfectly capable of leaving his own. Aligning himself carefully up alongside the fence, he lifted his right leg, relaxed his bladder, and listened contently to the warm jet hitting the painted wood. Circling back around to sniff again, he took pride in noticing his own scent now plastered on the fence with the others. At least until he reminded himself that his "accomplishment" was pissing in public, just so some random dogs would know he was there. Oh well, it's not like he could use a restroom anymore.

Stepping back for a moment, Kyle allowed himself to focus his ears on the sounds around him. He realized could hear very clearly what people were saying in the houses and apartments around him. However, he quickly found himself more interested in the barks and yelps coming from faraway places scattered throughout the town. He knew how every dog was feeling, and his new ears could effortless pinpoint each one. He even joined the conversation with a few loud barks of his own. Kyle knew he would miss out on the juicy gossip his friends would be exchanging at the lunch table, but somehow this was just as engaging.

In just a few more minutes, Kyle started down the street again, ears twitching and nose to the ground, eagerly and reluctantly exploring his new world.
