Without any warning, (well, technically there was a brief warning) Megan grabbed Kelly and gently placed her sister inside her backpack. She zipped it up and then headed outside her room.
Inside, the backpack was surprisingly clean and fresh smelling. Kelly could see a few books and an empty lunch box.
"Megan let me out of here!" Kelly yelled. "You're going to get in so much trouble."
However her voice didn't really carry far. She was trapped. And so she waited and waited and waited...
During this time she could hear the various sounds of the outside world. Megan stopped in the kitchen to get her lunch. Kelly watched as Megan's hands came inside the backpack and removed the box.
"Mom!" Kelly said while Megan casually took the box out of her bag, packed the lunch inside, and placed it back in the bag.
Kelly's mother was in the other room, which meant that Kelly's screams went unheard. Megan re-zipped her bag and walked into the living room where her mother was.
“Megan - before you go, have you seen your sister this morning?” Kelly’s mother asked.
Kelly started to kick and scream for help.
“Yes! She’s in here,” Megan said, holding up the backpack.
Kelly’s mother thought she could hear muffled sounds coming from the backpack but just blamed it on her imagination. Kelly stopped kicking and screaming, realizing she couldn’t get the attention of anyone outside the backpack.
As Megan headed out the door, Kelly reminisced about her elementary school experience, as it seemed she was going back at least for today.
