So you want to be a pet? Well, just in case you have any cute ideas about the nature of this sort of relationship, I hate to burst your bubble, but this particular witch is asexual.
If you ask nicely, though, then she might adopt you as a pet. Now, how would you do this?
"Please! Please, please, please, let me be your pet!" you might say. Nope, that sounds annoying.
How about, "I COMMAND you to make me your..." um, no.
As your mind goes through several different ideas of how you might pop the question, you frown unhappily, tilting your head to the side and sniffling. There is just not really any tactful way to ask her for something that she is clearly not going to offer. You are too nice of a dragon to try to nag her annoyingly for something that she has already clearly refused.
Aren't you?
"Are you alright, dear?" she asks you, taking your chin in her hand and turning your head to her.
Your heart warms so much when she does that, and this witch has been so nice to you, even though she seems like she could be a bit smarky. You sniffle a little. "I am sorry," you say, "it's just my mom used to do that before what happened...happened." You hunch, and you start to shake a little bit.
"Are you cold?" she asks.
"Well, I do feel weird about not having anything on," you say.
The witch takes a blue and yellow scarf that is hanging conveniently on the back of the bench, and she wraps it around your neck in a simple fashion. "There," she says. "You can take it off or put it back on anytime you want to. It will keep you a little more warm, and you will feel a little more, well, civilized."
Well, you can envision how cute a very young, black dragon would look wearing a scarf, and even though it doesn't cover anything important, you do feel a lot less naked with it on. Try it one time. It's very comfortable. A little bit of psychology for you: what we cover is not really as important as just having something on at all.
Anyway, you and the witch spend the entire morning talking together, and although she does get up every once in a while to attend to customers in the front, she keeps coming back to caress you and talk to you for a while longer. Eventually, she gives you a bath, and--saying that you must be very tired, which you are--she finds a blanket in her store that she throws over you, tucking you in.
She has not said quite yet that you are going to be her pet now, but you feel like you might have a better chance to earn the title than you did before. As you drift off to sleep, you feel a lot more contented and happy than you have in...well, come to think of it, you haven't ever felt quite so safe, warm, and loved, at least not in your memory.
Not many of us ever do.
