Lisa put the gun to her chest and prepared to fire on herself. She paused a minute, thinking over her decision.
Wait a minute, she thought to herself. What if this thing malfunctions? I mean, if this thing does what I think it does, then if I shrink myself too small I won't be able to grow myself back.
Lisa placed the device down on the table in front of her, staring at it for several moments.
I think I'll just wait for Danica to come back. I'll just have to be subtle about it, thought Lisa.
Lisa continued to study the device, adjusting the settings on it and firing it at several objects around her dorm, to get a feel for just how powerful it was. She switched the Reducer to shrink and fired at her bed and watched as it shrunk to the size of a matchbox, before returning it to its original size a few minutes later.
About thirty minutes later, Danica returned, having just returned from her daily jog around campus. Quickly, Lisa stashed the Reducer under the pillows on her bed and walked out to greet her friend.
"Hi, Lisa," Danica said, sweat glistening off her trim body. She grabbed a towel from the hamper and wiped her face with it. "Any mail today?"
Lisa pointed to the table and Danica walked over. She flipped through the envelopes, not seeing anything of interest to her, since most mail they received was mostly credit card applications or stuff like that.
"Hmm," Danica said, placing the mail back on the table. "Nothing good today. I'm going to take a shower."
Danica went into her room and grabbed a fresh pair of clothes, before going to the bathroom. As soon as she heard water running, Lisa took the Reducer out again, thinking of how to use the device on Danica without her friend finding out.
I've got it, Lisa thought to herself.
About ten minutes later, Danica walked into the kitchen area, looking for something to eat. She had her back to Lisa, giving the 21 year old a perfect shot. Slowly, and with shaking hands, Lisa raised the device at her friend, making sure the device was switched to 'Shrink'. Firing a quick burst, she fired, hitting her friend squarely in the back.
Lisa watched her friend shudder momentarily, then it seemed as if she did, in fact, shrink a little. Just a few inches, though.
Again, Lisa fired. And again, Danica shrank only a few inches.
Curious as to how much smaller she had made her friend, Lisa placed the Reducer under her pillows again and walked over to Danica. Before the two girls were roughly the same height, about 5'5". Now it was clear, as Lisa walked closer, that she was close to 7 inches taller than her dorm mate.
"Hey, Danica," Lisa said innocently, standing next to her. As Danica took a Tupperware bowl out of the fridge and placed it on the counter, she paused.
Something seemed .... off.
"What's wrong?" Lisa asked.
"The counter seems ... larger somehow."
"I'm sure it's just your imagination. You just came back from a run. Maybe you're a little bit more tired than usual."
"Yeah, maybe," Danica said, unsure.
Danica picked up the bowl, got a spoon out of one of the drawers, and sat down on the couch, flipping on the TV.
Lisa walked back to her room and picked up the Reducer again. She was beginning to feel guilty for shrinking her friend, but the rush she felt while doing it was hard to deny. She had to do it again.
Lisa pointed the device at her friend again, making sure the setting were what she wanted them to be and fired ...
