Dragon Flop!

added by Adalyn 5 years ago A

You don't even have time to recover from the fall as Blunt-snout bullies and pushes you back to the top of the tower, with the kobold juveniles following and watching with their huge, alien eyes. {{No! No! No!}} you complain. {{I think I broke my right foreleg really bad!}} It feels completely numb, and as you attempt to walk on it at all, it feels like you're moving a badly made robotic limb. At the very least, it's the worst sprain you've ever gotten. Besides that, your left wing is throbbing painfully.

{{You are underestimating the ability of your body to heal}} chuffs the cranky old veteran. {{Besides, look at these children!}} he scolds you. {{If they learn that someone can just give up after one graceless fall, then they will just keep walking away from anything hard for the rest of their lives.}}

Dizzy-tail interjects angrily, {{Stop acting like we are in the midst of a war!}}

Blunt-snout turns on him scornfully, but he stops to listen. {{You have an opinion, do you, young one?}}

{{I do!}} he says tartly. {{I know now that there's some truth to how training was done during the war. Whelps were rushed through training, and ones that held back anything were beaten, often culled, for the good of the tribe. It was an ugly necessity in an ugly war. That war is over...}}

{{Not as much as you might imagine,}} Blunt-snout chides him, {{unless you really believe the story that the "poachers" your tribal warriors hunt down are really poachers. Members of the losing sides hover perpetually at the brink of death by starvation, and how long do you think it will be before they become angry enough and unified enough to organize a real counter-strike? Your elders grow fat and senile, and your warriors grow lazy and callow and over-confident. What passes for peace is just systematic oppression at best, an outright fiction at worst. You stupid, young whelp! You seem to have no idea how serious this is!}}

Dizzy-tail's tail lashes angrily as he confronts the huge purple drake, undeterred by the tremendous size-difference. {{Amber-fields at least deserves a choice in whether or not to carry on while suffering from an injury,}} he intones sternly. {{If he is willing to try continuing to fly, then I won't stop him. I won't quietly watch you bully and shove him possibly to his death!}}

You find your own voice, and you tell them that you choose to...
