Jack followed his nose to the edge of a clearing.
There; in the middle, was a small family having a picnic lunch.
The delicious scent of bread with butter, ice cream, chicken, a salad, and fresh water wafted through the air towards him.
The temptation was almost to great, but he knew that if the family saw him, they would most likely freak out, causing him to panic and possibly spray them.
So Jack kept his distance.
Watching the little family from afar, he spotted one of the three children heading off into the woods.
The mother sent the other two to fetch him, but the child had already disappeared...
Jack of course knew that the kid was heading in the direction of the hard to see pond.
What if he fell in?
Jack would Not let that happen.
Following the child’s scent trail, he managed to spot him only a few feet from the pond!
Quickly, Jack showed himself.
The child looked at him unafraid.
Slowly, it reached out its hand for him to sniff.
{Apparently he has never heard of a skunk before.} Jack thought to himself, {Or he doesn’t know what one looks like.}
But the motion of reaching out his hand, caused the child to go come closer to the unseen pool of deep water.
Jack only knew of one thing to do.
He turned around, showing his back side the boy as he lifted his tail.
The boy seemed quite confused: what an odd thing for an animal to do.
Before the child could come any closer to the dreaded pond, Jack aimed his pucker-hole at the boy’s shirt and sprayed...
The poor child reared back in surprise and descust.
In a flash, he had turned tail, and ran back crying to his parents.
Jack felt bad that now he had sort of ruined the afternoon, but at least the child hadn’t drowned.
Satisfied, he took a different path and proceeded on...
