After everyone had dressed they returned to the kitchen to enjoy breakfast. As the adults now drank their morning coffee the girls happily munched on some toast. All of them agreed that last night had been a tremendous amount of fun and they would need to do it again sometime soon.
Kumiko now fidgeted slightly as she looked at Claudia and Julia. She had incredible news for the two of them about Cole but worried that they might think she was moving too fast. Taking a deep breath she now looked at the two of them. “Um Claudia, Julia there’s something I wanted to tell you.”
“What’s up Kumiko,” they said as they placed their toast and coffee down.
“Well,” she started. “I’ve been talking with Cole. He...well...he decided to take an office job with the Marines until his service is up. Luckily theirs something local in town so looks like he’s going to be around for awhile.”
Claudia and Julia now gaped at Kumiko as they absorbed this news. “Wait,” Julia stammered. “Your telling me Cole isn’t going back overseas with his recon unit?” Kumiko shook her head. “Coles staying?” Claudia whispered.
“Yeah he’s staying, for good.” Kumiko smiled. Both sisters now left for joy as they hugged Kumiko tightly. “Oh my god Kumiko thank you,” they cried. “How did you do it?”
Kumiko blushed as she now tried to settle herself. “Well as you know Cole and I have been seeing a lot of each other lately,” she said blushing. “We...we want to keep seeing each other and um..turns out with his service he has his pick of service. So he decided to stay local and well.....live with me.”
The girls now gaped at Kumiko as they now absorbed this new information. “So Cole is living with us now,” Mika exclaimed. “Where is he going to sleep? I’m already in the guest bedroom.” Kumiko blushed beat red as the others realized where exactly Cole would be sleeping. “Ohhh,” Mika whispered as she began to blush.
“Well I’m happy for you Kumi,” Lisa said. “But don’t you think your moving a bit fast?”
“Well I’m not getting any younger,” Kumiko stated causing the group to laugh. “Okay what I meant is not usually. Still Cole and I really like each other and want to be together. He needs a place to stay so I offered, it made the most sense.”
“How come Cole didn’t want to come home,” Claudia asked. “I mean I made sure mom and dad would love having him around again. Even I would like having him over no matter how many times he calls me chipmunk.”
“Claud,” Julia laughed. “Cole has been on his own for too long. If mom and dad start acting like...well...mom and dad, he’d lose it. Trust me him staying at home is a last resort.”
Claudia shrugged realizing her sister had a point and began munching on her toast again.
“So,” Lisa said trying to change the subject. “Anyone have any plans today?”
The girls all looked at each other and shrugged. “Not really mom,” Katie answered. “It’s the first day of summer vacation. I’m thinking we might just lay out and tan or go swimming. What about you?”
Lisa shrugged. “Nothing today for me,” she said. “Jason is having a daddy daughter day with Gloria so I have the whole day free.”
“Well it’s my last day,” Julia said sadly. “I already packed but was hoping for something fun to do.”
The girls now sat at the table thinking of plans, slowly turning to Katie with impish smiles. Katie sighed, she realized that any chance of a quiet Saturday were about to end.
