Alice Decrux silently cursed to herself when she saw the flashing lights in her rearview mirror. She took a quick glance as to where she was, and she noticed that she was on the road on the way out of town. The way she figured it, if she could get herself out of town and lose the cop, she'd be able to get out free. With that thought, she did what perhaps was the dumbest idea of the night as she pressed down on the accelerator pedal. The cop following her turned on his siren and sped up to match her speed. If she wasn't in trouble before, she was in trouble now.
The two cars sped past the shops that dotted the edge of town as they raced to the town line. If the cop weren't in hot pursuit, he'd stop there, but with his lights flashing and siren blaring, he wasn't about to let her get away. The two cars continued to race into the night and on to the mountainous roads. The roads would be a bit of a challenge during the day in clear weather. However, at night, the roads would be more perilous.
For several miles, the two cars weaved through the mountain roads without much trouble. Although Alice took the turns a little fast, she was able to stay on the road, but with the cop close behind her. However, there was one curve that she took too fast, and instead of staying on the road, she skidded off of it and straight into a tree at speeds way too fast. The car hit the tree, and spun around, tumbling down into a nearby valley. The cop pulled up to the spot where Alice's car went off the road. He walked out to see the wreck down in the valley.
"Dispatch," he called out using the radio on his shoulder, "We've got a wreck several miles out of town. We're gonna need a tow truck." He took a look down at the wreck and said, "and an ambulance."
The officer took one more look at the wreck and considered his options. He wasn't sure if Alice was still alive down there, and he was less sure of his ability to get down there and check. At this point, he figured the best thing he could do is to wait for backup to arrive.
