Lucas was by far Derek's closest friend. Having known each other since they were young, the two were practically inseparable right up to the point where they chose to be mechanical engineers together. They supported each other through everything and were like brothers. When Derek came out, Lucas was the first person to support him and cheer him on, despite questions of his own sexuality as a result. What Derek lacked in confidence, Lucas made up for and what Lucas lacked in rational, Derek made up for (despite his recent purchase). They worked very well together, and if wasn't for the fact that they were such good friends, Derek might have even developed a crush on his friend, even though Lucas would never reciprocate. Lucas was as straight as they came, even if he didn't have the luck with women to back it up. Nonetheless, they stuck by each other through thick and thin, so of course he'd test out the tongue stud with Lucas.
Besides, if it worked, they both needed it in their own ways. Aside from looking stereotypically nerdy, the two looked nothing alike. Lucas' dirty blonde hair contrasted Derek's red head pretty drastically, while Derek's freckled face was much more complementing to him than Lucas' acne filled profile. Lucas' plain, brown eyes only helped cement his nerdy appearance as did his glasses and 5'10", weak, skinny frame. Meanwhile, Derek's hazel eyes, while slightly more interesting, was offset by his less than lithe, 5'5" frame. Both men needed adjustments.
And with any luck, that's exactly what they were going to get, he thought happily as he made his way to Lucas' dorm. His only friend would be only one to not judge him for his ridiculous buy, and being men of science meant that they'd both be eager to test it out. Honestly, Derek wished his university didn't have their random roommate policy and that he could've lived with his friend. The university thought the policy would foster good relations with others, but it simply made things much worse. Both he and Lucas hated their roommates and cherished the day when they could get their own apartment not affiliated with the university. It was much cheaper, both financially and emotionally.
As Derek knocked on his friend's door, he began doubting himself. Despite the magic way the stud attached itself to him, he was starting to believe he was being stupid. A tongue stud that made your speech the truth? What bullshit! How could he have been fooled so easily?
Lucas, knowing that only Derek could have arrived (Lucas' roommate's friends avoided their room when only Lucas was present), opened the door with one of his trademark smirks. "What's up man?" he greeted.
"The sky," Derek answered sarcastically as he entered the room. Neither of them questioned the now non-existent ceiling above them, eliminating the topmost floor of the building. Lucas had specifically requested this dorm for the constant fresh air that it provided. It was good for his dust allergies and asthma.
Lucas, having seen his friend simply a few hours ago in their advanced physics lecture, noticed the changed in his friend. "Is that... Is that a tongue stud?" The four eyed man asked.
As Derek nodded, the man burst out laughing. Derek let him have his fun for a bit. With any luck, this would be the best purchase of his life. "Hey man, it's special. It's supposed to have magic powers and can make whatever I say the truth," Derek explained, recognizing how ridiculous he sounded. His defense simply made Lucas laugh even harder.
"Alright then Mr. Truth Teller, tell me the truth about myself," Lucas requested, wiping the tears of joy off his face.
