Because of the sizes for the newer members of Animalia, especially the new Dinotopians, new modes of transport were being considered, especially to places like Mieni Atoll. Newer planes weren't the only thing developed, there was also new ways of using old things.
A prime example was 15 aircraft carriers that were considered "state-of-the-art" at the start of the new millennium that were reaching the end of their "operational lifespan" that were recycled to serve as a new landing strip for the new planes that were designed for Animalian megafauna and Dinotopians. What was done was they were "cut down" as much as possible while keeping the "landing strips" as intact as possible, then imbedding them in concrete designed to be a new "artificial reef" that would integrate as seamlessly with the rest of Mieni Atoll.
The reason for this was when a 747 prototype with three decks was found "mothballed" in a storage hanger last fall, it was decided to retrofit it to serve the Megafauna Animalians. The reason it was "mothballed" was because it was designed to be able to take of and land on shorter landing strips. While it was a good idea, and structurally sound, it simply wasn't cost affective (even without bells and whistles) to mass produce. When it was found, it was decided to replace the original "3-deck" design with an extra reinforced single deck, and have bigger seats with bigger leg gaps between them. While it would be comfortable yet spartan, it wouldn't be completely finished until the summer. Because of this announcement, plans were put in place to have Dinotopians spend a week at Mieni Atoll during the summer while the finishing touches on their new colony were put into place.

Another thing that was found was a cruise ship that was part of a line that had others get scrapped due to "accidents", whether natural or manmade. When it was found in a similar storage place, it was decided to cut the number of floors in half and make it capable of supporting Animalians of all sizes in relative comfort, entertain them, and be safe for them. Because of these principles, it was decided to completely "hollow out" the ship, reuse the shell, and redesign the entire interior from scratch.
There was some confusion over calling the ship "Titanic 2.X", but the man who was in charge of the project was able to explain it.
"We're going to be doing several things different than the original Titanic. The reason the first one sank so easily, despite being named 'unsinkable' was from: A. A hull that wasn't forged as one complete piece, because they didn't have technology to do so; B. There was too much slag in the rivets that was used to attach the hull plates to the superstructure, thereby weakening them; and C. The tanks that was supposed to prevent sinking in such an event weren't sealed at the top, thereby allowing the water to overfill them all. If you don't know your history, you are doomed to repeat it."

Because of these new projects, everyone was looking forward to summer, especially the Dinotopians.
