So as I recall the real CSS Hunley went down in 1864 and after author Clive Cussler had re-discovered her resting place
in 1990s ( some diver in the 1860s /1870s found her first)
she was raised on a specially made crdle about 2005 or so
On her final voyage where she sank the Union blockader
Houstonic(?) she was captained by a Captain Dixon of either the
Confederate Navy or Army
After they'd raised her they weren't just going to pop open those rusty
narrow hatches but instead
popped off her boiler plates on top, where they found the interior was
filled with cement like harbour sediment
right to the top. They found the skeletons of Dixon
and his crew still at
"Battle Stations" which means the crew on the bench beside the crank and Dixon at the steering and diving levers. What that means is that after she sank the Houstonic she went into the
outer harbour and submerged to the bottom to wait out all the hulabaloo on the surface but alas
oxygen depravation after a hour or two caused her crew to slip under and drift off.
Since the real CSS Hunley never called herself Hunley I I assume that
means the fictional Hunley II is a
2nd or third generation
sub.
In real life Alexander McClintock,a engineer
kept silent for years about the Hunley
but in 1901,what with all the wild storys of two Hunleys going about the harbour
he published what he recalled of her construction
So CSS Hunley II is somewhere between 66 to 90 feet long
and as per technology of the 1862 period
either is hand cranked or uses a steam engine to get about.Probably a
working dive depth of 100 feet
down to 150 feet if she uses her Miracle Ore
with a top speed of
perhaps 10 knots (Miracle Ore) and 6 to 8 hours breatheable air submerged
with a crew of 27
The Nautilus, with mad ruthless Captain Nemo
probably is 3 times bigger, three times faster and can dive 3 times deeper
Hence a tough Mission for the CSS Hunley II to sink the Nautilus
